Feldis: Panoramic Trails and Winter Activities
Accommodation in Feldis
Feldis is situated on a terrace on the slope of the Stätzerhorn range. The high-altitude areas are characterised by panoramic views, diverse flora and glistening mountain lakes. If you are looking for a hotel in Feldis, it is best to plan your trip around your preferred focus: trails through flower meadows, village history or seasonal winter activities. What is on offer varies depending on the season and daily programme.
Hiking among flower meadows and mountain views
The easy Flower Walk “Flowers and Glacial Traces in Feldis” is 6.1 kilometres long and takes about two hours to walk. The flower trail begins on the edge of the village and leads through species-rich semi-dry meadows. Along the trail is an erratic boulder deposited by the Albula Glacier during the last Ice Age. The Thusisblick viewpoint offers views across Domleschg and towards Thusis. There is a picnic area with a barbecue spot there; local safety instructions apply when using it.
Another tour leads from the mountain station of the Feldis-Mutta chairlift past the Raguta mountain hut, around Tgom Aulta at an altitude of 2,085 metres, and back to the mountain station. On the Mutta panoramic circular hiking trail, you can see, among others, Piz Beverin, Tödi and the Calanda range. The circular hike from Feldis to Dreibündenstein starts in the village and leads via the Feldiser Alp to its destination. Dreibündenstein marks the only point where the former Three Leagues, which existed until 1798, shared a common border. Check trail conditions before setting out.
Village history and art
The Feldis walking trail is a circular route through the village with eleven historic stops. A MiniGuide brochure at the mountain station of the Rhäzüns-Feldis aerial cableway also presents eleven selected sites or objects; allow about 45 minutes to use it. The brochure is free of charge. Check whether it is available locally before you travel.
Stizunetta, also known as the milk centre, was built as a milk centre in 1916. The farmers of Feldis could sell their own milk and cheese there. St. Hippolytus Church is believed to stand on a pre-Christian place of worship. Gasthaus Wildenstein is the oldest inn still in operation in Feldis. On Mutta, between Feldis and Dreibündenstein, stands “The Thirteen”: a group of thirteen tall, slender female figures made from Feldis larch wood.
Winter activities and seasonal planning
The Feldis winter sports area offers skiing, three well-known sledging runs, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The sledging run from Mutta to Feldis is an easy five-kilometre descent with a vertical drop of 504 metres. Snow and operating conditions change seasonally, so it is advisable to check the current situation before your winter visit.
The natural ice rink at Alp Raguta measures 20 by 44 metres and is a five-minute walk from the mountain station of the Feldis-Mutta chairlift. In winter, you can go ice skating, play Bavarian curling and play curling there; ice skates can be rented on site. The ice rink is seasonal, so check opening conditions before your visit. During operating hours, the Alp Raguta mountain hut serves food, including typical GraubĂĽnden specialities. Feldis Ski School offers group lessons and private lessons; check the current winter programme before travelling.
Getting there and choosing your travel dates
You can reach Feldis by aerial cableway from Rhäzüns or by PostBus. The Rhäzüns-Feldis aerial cableway and the Feldis-Mutta chairlift also provide access to the mountains in summer; operating dates and weather restrictions vary. Check the current timetables when planning your journey. If you are looking for a hotel in Feldis, match your travel dates to your preferred activities and take into account the seasons for the ice rink, snow sports and mountain lifts.
