La Punt-Chamues-Ch lies in the Upper Engadin and the Maloja region. Two settlement centers define the municipality: La Punt lies to the left of the Inn, while Chamues-ch is in the plain at the entrance to Val Chamuera. Near La Punt, the mountain stream Ova Chamuera flows into the Inn. At the foot of the Albula Pass, the Engadin valley road and the Inn also meet here. The river landscape, village history and trails into the side valley are among the different facets of the area.

Churches and Engadin Houses

San Andrea is an important Late Gothic church in the Engadin. Its architectural features include Romanesque elements from the Middle Ages and modern stained-glass windows. The Baroque church of La Punt offers a different architectural impression: built in 1680, it is richly decorated inside and out. The Chesa Merleda dates from 1642. It is considered a landmark of La Punt and one of the most significant architectural monuments in the canton of GraubĂĽnden.

The Engadin houses also display distinctive details: thick walls, small windows, various types of oriel windows and sgraffito. When you look at these buildings, you encounter not only individual churches and a historic house, but also a recognizable local architectural style. Their varied forms and periods give the area a cultural focus that pairs well with a stay in the Engadin.

Chalandamarz and Local Crafts

Chalandamarz is traditionally celebrated in La Punt-Chamues-Ch on March 1, and children still parade through the village. They ring bells and sing the five Chalandamarz songs. The tradition also includes handmade silk roses called “Rösas”, made in La Punt for the occasion. The fixed traditional date and the customs described make Chalandamarz a special insight into local village life. If you would like to plan your stay around the festival, check the event dates for your travel period.

Val Chamuera, Forest Gallery and Active Trails

Val Chamuera is characterized by high mountains, deep gorges, unspoiled nature and the mountain stream Ova Chamuera. The valley is known for its diversity of plant life and abundance of wildlife. A well-maintained nature trail starts at the southern edge of La Punt-Chamues-Ch and is ideal for bike tours and hikes. From La Punt, you can ride sections of the Inn Cycle Route in the direction of Maloja or Zernez. The two directions offer different options for a bike tour.

Hikers in Val Chamuera come across the remote house of Serlas at 2,016 meters above sea level. It lies within the municipality of La Punt-Chamues-Ch. Above Chamues-ch, the Waldgalerie (Forest Gallery) is also located in the Swiss stone pine and larch forest of God Fainchs. It can be experienced on an approximately 45-minute walk through the forest, with artists presenting their works at ten stations in seasonally changing exhibitions. If you are visiting specifically for the art, take the seasonal changes to the exhibition into account.

La Punt-Chamues-Ch has a one-kilometer trail-running course with eight training stations. Different surfaces are used to train sure-footedness and running technique. The Skills Park has obstacles for skateboards, scooters, bikes, BMX and inline skates, including a mini ramp. Facilities may be changed or maintained seasonally, so check their current condition before your visit.

Winter Hiking and Cross-Country Skiing

The La Punt–Madulain–La Punt winter hike starts in the historic center of La Punt, follows the Inn and returns after a loop through Madulain. Be sure to take the prevailing winter conditions into account for the tour. If you prefer cross-country skiing, skating and classic-style options are available on a network of more than 230 kilometers of groomed trails. Along the Inn, there are gentle sections and family-friendly stretches that can be used with a stroller. This information applies to individual sections; trail and snow conditions vary by season.
