Jenins is a political municipality in the Swiss canton of Graubünden and belongs to the Landquart Region and the Bündner Herrschaft. Its wine-growing landscape, historic buildings and cultural attractions give the village a variety of facets. To plan your trip, you can follow the vineyard trails, learn more about the history of wine-growing, or explore the museum and church.

The Bündner Herrschaft is also part of the regional context: it is marketed under the Heidiland umbrella brand and described as a wine-growing region within the Heidiland holiday region. This designation refers to the wider region; Jenins itself belongs to the Bündner Herrschaft.

Vineyard Trails and Wine Walks

The Jenins Vineyard Trail is an easy, short circular route around the Alte Torkel and the Huus vum Bündner Wii. It is approximately 750 metres long. Along the way, eight information panels explain the past and present of wine-growing in the Bündner Herrschaft and the Chur Rhine Valley. The route combines a walk with insights into two wine-growing regions.

Another route option is the Malans–Jenins Wine Trail. It forms part of the signposted wine trail and passes through the wine-growing village of Jenins. Many hiking trails in Jenins run through the vineyards and climb up to the Jenins Alps. The options therefore differ in their connection to wine-growing: the vineyard trail is described as a short circular route, while the Malans–Jenins Wine Trail is part of a signposted wine trail. No walking time is specified for these routes.

Wine Experiences and Dining

The Alte Torkel is a two- to three-minute walk from the Jenins Rathaus postbus stop. Wine tastings there begin with a brief introduction to the Alte Torkel, the Huus vum Bündner Wii and the Graubünden wine-growing region. The tasting follows. As the arrangements may change, check the latest information about the programme beforehand.

The Huus vum Bündner Wii offers seasonal cuisine inspired by 21 open wines. The seasonal focus is part of this offering; menu details may change. For your planning, it is therefore worth checking the provider’s latest information.

Museum and Church

The Greisinger Museum is largely underground and accessed through the door of a hobbit hole. It houses Bernd Greisinger’s private collection, which focuses on Middle-earth. The museum does not have regular official opening hours; visitors must purchase a ticket through the booking system. Check the visitor information there in advance, as booking instructions may change.

Jenins Church combines distinctive architecture with several historical features. Its slender Baroque tower has an onion dome; the nave was built after the village fire of 1745. Notable gravestones from the 17th to the 19th century adorn both the church’s exterior wall and the cemetery. Concerts are held regularly in the church. If you would like to attend a particular concert, check the relevant dates before your visit.

Historic Houses and Village Character

The Salishaus is also associated with the village fire of 1745: it was built afterwards and served as the ancestral home of the Salis-Jenins family. Together with the residential building opposite, the Haus Weinzürle forms a gateway to the village centre. Jenins is also listed in the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites.

These themes can help you choose your accommodation: depending on whether you want to focus on wine trails, a cultural attraction or the village’s architecture, you can set different priorities when planning your trip. Check the booking and date information mentioned above for individual visits.
