Experience biking, mountain lakes and culture in Arosa
Accommodation in Arosa
Arosa combines bike routes with mountain lakes, winter sports and cultural attractions. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip here, start by asking which activities you want to shape your stay: biking, winter activities, nature experiences or history. Differences in seasons, routes and visiting conditions provide concrete guidance for your planning.
Biking and winter sports in Arosa
The bike routes range from easygoing to sporty in riding style, and from easy to difficult in level of difficulty. When planning your tour, you can therefore consider your preferred riding style and the difficulty level you want separately. The availability of individual trails may vary depending on the season and conditions.
In winter, the snow-reliable Arosa Lenzerheide ski area offers 225 km of groomed pistes at altitudes of up to 2,865 m above sea level. For cross-country skiing, Arosa has 28 km of classic trails and 22 km of skating trails; availability depends on the season and weather. More than 60 km of groomed walking and winter hiking trails add to the options. Grooming and access are seasonal. The winter activities therefore vary by type: pistes, classic or skating trails, and walking or winter hiking trails.
Mountain lakes and trails
Obersee is situated at 1,739 m above sea level in the heart of Arosa’s settlement area and is the larger of the two lakes. In summer, you can explore it by pedal boat, rowboat or stand-up paddleboard. Schwellisee is one of ten mountain lakes in Arosa and can be reached from Innerarosa via a short walk; conditions along the way vary depending on the season.
Well-maintained, marked hiking trails in and around Arosa lead to mountain lakes and peaks reaching up to 2,900 m. The options range from a short walk from Innerarosa to trails with mountain peaks as their destination.
Cultural attractions and visiting conditions
Bergkirchli was completed in 1493, is Arosa’s oldest building and is a protected historic monument. It houses a historic house organ. Bergkirchli is only open during services, concerts or guided tours. During the summer and winter seasons, a romantic 45-minute concert takes place there on Tuesdays at 5 pm. Check the concert date before your visit.
The Schanfigg-Arosa Local History Museum is housed in the Eggahuus, one of the oldest houses in Inner-Arosa. The timber house was built around 1600. The museum explores the history, customs, everyday life in earlier times and traditional crafts of Arosa and the Schanfigg region. The collection includes, among other things, a weaving room, a house organ, a sports section with skis and sleds, collections of rocks and wood, tools, and taxidermied animals. The museum is open for self-guided visits; check the current opening hours in advance.
Arosa Kultur also offers a useful reference for planning around events: its programme includes more than 100 cultural events each year. Individual dates and programmes change, so it is worth checking the events calendar before your trip.
Animals and themed trails
At Arosa Bear Sanctuary, bears rescued from poor living conditions are given a species-appropriate home. From the viewing platform, you can see the entire outdoor enclosure. Informative displays on the platform share knowledge about animal welfare, brown bears and their biology. The sanctuary is right next to the middle station of the Arosa Weisshorn cable car.
On the Arosa Squirrel Trail, squirrels can be observed and fed at any time of year; children can feed them, too. The trail passes ten illustrated storybook panels about the life of the squirrel. It starts at the Vita-Parcours in Arosa and ends at the Maran bus stop.
The Ricola Arosa Adventure Trail is 3 km long and has ten stations. It is family-friendly, flat between the stations and mostly paved, and is suitable for strollers. The trail operates seasonally; check visiting options in advance.
Golf as another focus
Golf Club Arosa has an 18-hole, par-65 golf course that opened in summer 2001. The club also has a covered driving range, putting and chipping areas. The driving range is open to beginners and experienced golfers. This information gives golf enthusiasts a concrete starting point for including this activity in their travel plans.
