Davos Wolfgang
Accommodation in Davos Wolfgang
Davos Wolfgang lies at the 1,631-metre-high Wolfgang Pass between Klosters and Davos. The pass summit was formerly called “Stütz”. Walking paths to Lake Davos, hiking connections and winter routes shape the opportunities in the area. If you are looking for a hotel, its location can provide a convenient starting point for the activities that interest you during your stay.
Hiking trails and walks
Walking paths lead directly from Wolfgang to Lake Davos and the surrounding forests. One specific route is the Höhwald walk: it starts at Wolfgang Pass by Hotel Kessler's Kulm, passes through wooded sections to Höhwald above Lake Davos, and ends at Davos Dorf railway station. Stilli is about one kilometre from the station. The walk also leads to Davos Adventure Park; the park is associated with Restaurant Chalet Velo.
The Wolfgang Trail offers a well-defined tour: it is 4 kilometres long, involves 160 metres of elevation gain and is listed as taking 1 hour and 35 minutes. The route passes through Arelenwald and via Ober Laret before returning to Wolfgang Pass. As a snowshoe tour, it is considered suitable for families. Winter conditions may vary depending on snow and route conditions; take this into account when planning.
For a different route, the Drusatscha Loop starts opposite the Hochgebirgsklinik Davos Wolfgang. A steep single track climbs around 200 metres to Alp Drusatscha; single tracks and natural trails pass through forests above Grüenbödeli. The Grüenbödeli route, in turn, starts at Wolfgang Pass, passes through wooded sections to Davos Laret and continues to Klosters. From Grüenbödeli, you can take the Rhaetian Railway back to Davos; check the timetable.
The Via Valtellina also connects the pass with a longer history of trails. This revived historic long-distance hiking route follows in the footsteps of the muleteers; its stage between Klosters and Davos crosses Wolfgang Pass. From the pass, the Via Valtellina initially follows the Rhaetian Railway tracks, then continues along the shore of Lake Davos to Davos Dorf. The Landquart-Davos Railway first crossed Wolfgang Pass in 1890.
Winter routes and hotel location
The winter trails differ considerably in their routes. The Wolfgang–Meierhof route follows the Totalpbach, crosses it after about half a kilometre via a bridge, and continues along a snow-covered, traffic-free forest road through the deep-snow-covered forest. It ends at the Meierhöfe bus stop. Since winter surface conditions can change, take them into account on the day of your tour.
On the Wolfgang cross-country ski trail, forest and lakeside sections alternate: the trail passes through forests and along Lake Davos, and at Wolfgang it forms a loop through open countryside. If you are planning a descent, another notable route runs between Weissfluh summit and Wolfgang Pass. It starts at an altitude of 2,844 metres and descends around 7 kilometres to the pass at 1,631 metres. Ski access and piste conditions depend on the season. A bus journey from Wolfgang Pass is described for the return to Davos; check the current timetable.
Hotel Kessler's Kulm offers a specific point of reference: it is next to Davos Wolfgang railway station and a ten-minute bus ride from the centre of Davos. Two ski runs in the Parsenn ski area lead directly to the accommodation. Cross-country ski trails and hiking paths start at the hotel.
Lake Davos and other activities
Lake Davos has a public beach and opportunities for sailing, stand-up paddleboarding and wakeboarding. Sailing options include taster courses for ages six and up, lessons and boat rentals. These activities on the water complement the trails through the forest and pass area. When choosing your accommodation, you can consider whether you are more likely to use the hiking and winter routes or the activities by the lake during your stay.
A mountain bike tour is also described: the Parsenn Tour follows a single track towards Wolfgang Pass and then returns to Davos on a cycle path. Excursion options therefore differ not only by season, but also by mode of transport and route.
