Les Emibois appeals to travellers who want to include hiking, cycling and horse-related activities in their stay. When choosing a hotel, your planned daily pace can be a good starting point: would you like to explore on foot, go for a cycling loop or spend time with horses? The routes and activities offer different options.

Getting here and hiking

Les Emibois is served by line 236 of the Chemins de fer du Jura (CJ). The line connects La Chaux-de-Fonds, Le Noirmont, Saignelégier and Glovelier. As timetables and operating conditions may change, check your connection before travelling.

The “Homes pour vieux chevaux” tour includes a CJ train journey to Les Emibois, where the train stops on request. From the station, continue on foot to Le Roselet. Check current train services, especially the stop on request. At Le Roselet, you can visit the stables of the Fondation pour le cheval free of charge. A large terrace offers opportunities to watch horses in the dry paddock and pastures. If you are planning a guided tour, make arrangements in advance.

Another hike passes through the pastures and forests of the Franches-Montagnes and ends in Les Emibois. It can be shortened at the Les Emibois or Muriaux stops by taking a train on request. Check the timetables for this option. The possibility of shortening the route along the way may be a factor when planning your hike.

Cycling tours and horse-related activities

The signposted “Au Pays du Cheval” cycling route runs from Saignelégier via Les Emibois to Les Breuleux. It starts and ends in Saignelégier and passes through Les Emibois along the way. The family-friendly circular route is 16 km long, with 278 m of ascent and 278 m of descent, and is rated fairly easy. Its distance, elevation gain and difficulty give you different points of reference when choosing a tour. If conditions change, check the signposting on site.

Horse rides and carriage rides are available from Elevage d’Emiwood in Les Emibois. The establishment is at the heart of the riding trails, from where rides take you through the landscapes of the Franches-Montagnes. If a ride is part of your travel plans, confirm the arrangements directly before you arrive.

At Aubry-Galloway, guided tours can be arranged by appointment. Contact the farm before you arrive and follow its rules and access conditions.

Local refreshments and scenery

Au Pain d’Antan SA brings together a bakery, patisserie and tea room in Les Emibois. If you are planning a visit, check the opening hours in advance.

The Arête des Sommêtres ridge runs through the municipality of Muriaux; the ruins of Spiegelberg stand on it. The municipal landscape includes a gently rolling high plateau of the Jura plateau, with marshy depressions that are mostly closed basins, limestone knolls, extensive Jura pastures and intervening forests.
