In the upper Seetal valley, Hochdorf combines nature observation, local history and cultural attractions. The municipality includes significant agricultural and forest areas. In the Ronfeld, flood basins, flower meadows and birdlife take center stage; historic buildings and the local museum offer insights into the town’s development.

Nature Observation in the Ronfeld

The Ronfeld comprises two large flood basins with fluctuating water levels, species-rich flower meadows and newly planted trees and shrubs. The area is home to a wide variety of animal and plant species and serves as a resting place for rare migratory birds. Five marked observation stations are located there between Hochdorf and Baldegg. From the observation hut, you can watch white storks, kingfishers, grey herons and dragonflies feeding or hunting. The hut and stations offer different places to observe nature: a permanent observation point and several marked stations in the Ronfeld.

Historic Buildings and Local History

In Hochdorf, 31 historic buildings and two fountains are marked with simple information boards. A group of buildings comprising the parish church, Chapel of Our Lady, rectory, benefice houses and former schoolhouse includes architectural heritage spanning five centuries. The Historical Walk passes historic buildings and fountains. The 2.82-kilometre circular route is completed on foot and starts and ends at Hochdorf Town Hall.

Hochdorf Reformed Church was built in the Heimatstil style and opened on Luzernstrasse in 1929. Its rose window by Giuseppe Scartezzini, a student of Giacometti, tells the story of the calming of the storm on the lake. The interior also features windows designed by Romano Galizia, a wall tapestry, a communion table and a lectern. This makes it possible to appreciate the architecture alongside several specially designed elements.

The Hochdorf Local Museum is located in the basement of the Avanti school building. It presents stories about local history and exhibits from the Hochdorf region, spanning the 19th century to the present day. Topics include Hochdorf’s development, local stories, and industrial, economic, craft and family histories. The collection also includes artworks by artists from the Seetal, photography and the Hochdorf photo archive, as well as religious life and education.

Individual buildings also tell stories of their former uses: in Unterdorf, the former chocolate factory stands out; it is now a Manor store. The former «Au Louvre» department store remains almost unchanged.

Cultural Venues and Events

The Fototreppe Braui, on the stairs leading to the regional library, is a place to encounter Hochdorf through photography. A new exhibition is presented there every eight months; the individual exhibitions change. For over a hundred years, the Brauiturm shaped the townscape; today, it is used mainly for cultural purposes. The Braui Cultural Centre offers event spaces for groups of 50 to 1,000 people; capacity may vary depending on the configuration.

Swimming and Route Planning

Baldegg Lido is located in the southeast of Lake Baldegg. Its facilities include a four-lane swimming pool, a non-swimmer pool, a children’s splash area and a diving tower. As facilities may be subject to operational changes, it is advisable to check the current situation before visiting.

Hochdorf offers different route options for a walk through town or a longer trip. The Historical Walk is 2.82 kilometres long and passes historic buildings and fountains on foot. By contrast, the Seetaler HĂĽgel- und Seeroute between Hochdorf and Lenzburg is a 59.38-kilometre e-bike route of moderate difficulty. Its length and mode of transport provide a concrete basis for planning your day.
