Hildisrieden: Church Art, Chapels and Pond Landscape
Accommodation in Hildisrieden
When looking for a hotel for a stay in Hildisrieden, you can focus on sacred art or paths through the landscape. Hildisrieden lies in the Central Plateau of the Canton of Lucerne, between Lake Sempach and Lake Baldegg. Churches and chapels in the village are complemented by hiking and cycling paths in the surrounding area, allowing you to include both cultural and natural attractions in your plans.
Parish Church and Chapels
The Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary was consecrated in 1904. It is a spacious single-nave church in the neo-Gothic style, with rich decorative murals. The chancel contains a large stained-glass window by Aloys Balmer depicting the family tree of Jesus. The building brings together several distinct features: its spacious single-nave layout, neo-Gothic design, painted decoration and a clearly defined subject in the chancel.
Local chapels include St. Margaret’s in Ohmelinge, St. Mary’s in Schopfe and the Chapel of St. Anthony in Traselinge. St. Mary’s Chapel is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and St. Wendelin. Its small Early Baroque altar houses a High Gothic Madonna dating from the second half of the 14th century. The altar and Madonna thus belong to different art-historical periods. The Chapel of St. Anthony in Traselinge was consecrated on 13 June 2002.
The different dates provide a helpful point of reference: for the parish church and the Chapel of St. Anthony, they are consecration dates; for St. Mary’s, they indicate the period of the Madonna and its altar. Alongside the neo-Gothic church building are a small Early Baroque altar and a High Gothic work of art. If you are interested in art history, you can explore these differences as themes in their own right during your stay.
Pond Landscape and Paths
The “The Alps Within Reach” route starts at the Hildisrieden/Dorf bus stop and passes through the pond landscape in Tellewald. The ponds provide a habitat for various amphibians and insects. There are also well-maintained hiking and cycling paths around Hildisrieden. This allows you to choose between a specifically named route and the other paths in the area, without limiting the landscape to just one excursion destination.
The location between Lake Sempach and Lake Baldegg is also a useful point of reference. In the wider Hildisrieden area, Sempach’s city gate and Sursee’s old town are among the historic and cultural attractions. There is also a picnic area on Lake Sempach, suitable for family leisure and relaxation. The options therefore range from sacred art in Hildisrieden and the pond landscape to attractions and places to relax in the surrounding area.
