Brot-Plamboz: Winter Activities and Peat History
Accommodation in Brot-Plamboz
Brot-Plamboz is a municipality in the canton of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Its defining features include winter activities, the history of peat extraction, the Marais de Brot, and offerings related to agriculture and regional cuisine. Seasonal differences are important when choosing when to travel: cross-country ski trails and a ski lift are part of the winter offering, while the via ferrata has its own seasonal closure period. There is also a cycling and walking path, historical context, and specific offerings from the Ferme des Tourbières.
Winter Sports and Seasonal Conditions
Several cross-country ski trails are groomed in Brot-Plamboz in winter. Check snow conditions before travelling. A 300-metre ski run is located in the Vallée des Ponts. The small ski lift is in Brot-Dessus and operates seasonally. Cross-country skiing and a ski run are therefore two different options for winter activities.
The Via ferrata du Tichodrome can also only be planned outside a specified closure period. The via ferrata starts at Le Haut-de-la-Côte and is 550 metres long. It is closed from 1 January to 30 June because it is the wallcreeper’s breeding season, and cannot be climbed during this period. Check current access arrangements before visiting.
Route Connections, Landscape, and Peat History
A combined cycling and walking path connects Brot-Dessus with Les Ponts-de-Martel via the Marais de Brot. You can therefore include the route in your plans as either a cycling or walking connection. The Marais de Brot is classified under identifier HM 15_5 as part of the Marais des Ponts-de-Martel group. The landscape of Brot-Plamboz is characterized by meadows, pastures, and forests, and has a rural character.
The history of peat extraction adds to this picture of the area. Peat extraction in Brot-Plamboz increased significantly after the First World War. Peat workers drained and reclaimed the infertile land, cultivated it, and harvested the peat. The work thus involved both preparing the land and extracting the fuel. The peat that was extracted was exported as fuel throughout the country. Local history therefore encompasses not only work in the area, but also the movement of peat beyond the municipality.
Farm Experiences and Regional Cuisine
Activities at the Ferme des Tourbières give visitors a chance to immerse themselves in farm life and learn about the work carried out there. Farm visits are available on request. For team building, immersive team days featuring skill challenges and outdoor obstacle courses are offered. The activities have different focuses: you can make learning about agricultural work or taking on shared challenges the main focus.
The Ferme des Tourbières farm brunch includes farm bread, milk and eggs from the farm, as well as homemade meringue. Booking is required; availability may vary, and the selection may change. Be sure to arrange the brunch in advance. La Taverne des Petits-Ponts serves regional or Swiss cuisine in Brot-Plamboz. Menus and service may change, so check when planning your visit.
