Beckenried between lake and mountains

Beckenried stretches for five kilometres along the southern shore of Lake Lucerne. The old village centre lies just above the lake level. The larger southern part of the municipality consists of rugged mountain terrain that rises steeply above the lakeshore. The lake, village and mountains offer different focal points for your stay. If you are looking for a hotel in Beckenried, you can decide whether you would like to explore the village itself, go hiking or visit destinations on Klewenalp.

Getting here and hiking by the lake

Main road 377 runs from Stans through Beckenried to Seelisberg in the canton of Uri; a connecting structure to the A2 motorway is also part of the municipality’s transport infrastructure. Connections to the Beckenried-Klewenalp cable car include the PostBus from Stans railway station to Beckenried Post and boats from Lucerne or Brunnen to Beckenried. The cable car ride takes ten minutes and brings you to Klewenalp, at 1,600 metres above sea level. Check the timetables if you plan to use these connections.

The Beckenried–Risleten Gorge–Treib hike passes through woodland and beneath rock ledges, through or over Risleten Gorge, and on to Treib. From Treib, a boat connection takes you back to Beckenried; check the current timetable when planning your trip. The seventh stage of the Waldstätterweg trail offers another route: it follows the lakeside road to Risleten and then climbs through the gorge. The Waldstätterweg is signposted in both directions as regional route no. 98; check the trail markers on site.

Trails and activities on Klewenalp

The Klewenalp-StockhĂĽtte winter sports area offers skiing, snowboarding, winter hiking trails and snowshoe trails. It also has a nine-kilometre toboggan run and two magic carpets for beginners in winter sports. Snow conditions and operations may vary, so it is worth checking the latest conditions before planning your day.

For a fun route from Klewenalp to StockhĂĽtte, the Goldi-Gwundernasenweg trail features ten puzzle stations. The Nidwalden Beer Trail connects the same two places and is described as a 7.15-kilometre themed trail of moderate difficulty. Four tasting stops, a three-course menu and a cellar in the ground in the middle of nature are part of what it offers; menu details may change. The trails have different focuses: solving puzzles along the way is central to the Goldi-Gwundernasenweg, while the Beer Trail centres on its tasting stops.

The family-friendly «Ergglen» climbing area is about a 30-minute walk from the Klewenalp mountain station. Its well-secured routes range from grade 4a to 7a. Children can balance on boulders and hide in caves; there is also a fire pit for barbecues or picnics. The climbing area is unsupervised, and you must bring your own equipment. The Klewenalp via ferrata runs through the Ergglen area, with ladders, steps and iron rungs, and takes around 20 minutes to cross. From there, you can enjoy views of Lake Lucerne and the surrounding mountains, including Brisen, Niederbauen and Rigi. Seasonal and weather-related restrictions may apply to the via ferrata; you should also check conditions at the climbing area in advance.

The Minigolf Arena Beckenried also offers a specific activity in the village: the 16-hole course is suitable for families, groups and companies and has a snack bar on site. It is centrally located and accessible by public transport. As it is open seasonally, check the opening hours before visiting.

See-Distillerie Beckenried has more than 50 years of tradition, passion and craftsmanship behind it. Tours of the production rooms and cask store include tastings of vodka, gin and American-style whiskey; the selection may change. Alpkäse, Bratkäse and Mutschli cheeses are made at Alp Unterstock, a traditional alpine farm in Beckenried. The cheese is sold directly at the alp and at the Alpkäse market in Beckenried; production and sales may vary by season.
