Beggingen lies at the foot of the Randen and about two kilometers from the German border. The surrounding area is considered a diverse destination for hiking and cycling. In spring and fall, Beggingen enjoys many sunny days and beautiful nature for outdoor activities.

Hiking from Beggingen

The Turmland Schaffhausen hike starts in Beggingen village. At Luckenhalde, you can interrupt the climb to look for fossils; discoveries are not guaranteed. There is a barbecue area and a play meadow along the route at Zelgli. Maintenance and availability may vary. If you plan to stop there, check the current conditions in advance.

On the hike, a spiral staircase with exactly 100 steps leads to a tower platform. The platform is 20 meters high and offers views over the Hegau, the Black Forest and the Swiss Pre-Alps. You can take a walk with your family in the Jubiläumswald; trail conditions may change. Check them before setting out.

The hiking options differ in their focus: the Turmland Schaffhausen hike includes fossil hunting and the tower platform as specific points along the route, while the Jubiläumswald is suitable for a family walk. Beggingen is well connected by public transport for visits to various viewpoints. From the Beggingen, Dorf terminus, a marked hiking trail leads towards Schleitheimer Randenturm. The walk in this direction takes around 50 minutes and ends with a steep climb. Check trail conditions before setting out.

Views and nature

Ob Luken offers wide-ranging views across the Black Forest as far as Feldberg. The tower offers a different perspective, with views over the Hegau, Black Forest and Swiss Pre-Alps; the Black Forest is a feature of both panoramas. Rare lady’s slipper orchids also grow at ob Luken. Their visibility varies by season. If you want to see the plants, take this seasonal variation into account when planning your visit.
