Rorschacherberg between Rorschach and Lake Constance

Rorschacherberg lies on the hillside above Rorschach and stretches east of Rorschach to Lake Constance. The village is home to the castles of St. Annaschloss, Wartensee, Wartegg and Wiggen. Together with walking and hiking trails and Wartegg Park, they shape the themes around which a stay can be planned. The Rorschach-Heiden mountain railway stops in Rorschacherberg include Seebleiche and SandbĂĽchel. If you would like to include the railway in your journey, check the timetable for your travel date.

Walking and hiking trails

Rorschacherberg has around 35 kilometres of walking and hiking trails. One specific route is the castle trail, which opened in 2016. It is listed as taking 2ÂĽ hours; actual walking time may vary depending on conditions. The trail can be travelled on foot, by bicycle or with a pushchair. Route details and surface conditions may change, so check the latest information before setting out, especially if travelling by bicycle or with a pushchair.

The Seeblick-Bänkliweg offers a different experience: there are 18 spots with unusual seating along the hiking trail. The trail offers views over Lake Constance and the neighbouring countries; visibility depends on the weather. There are fire pits at spots 8, 9 and 14. Individual installations may change, and the fire pits may not always be available. The two trails can therefore be considered from different perspectives: the castle trail has a stated duration and possible ways of getting around, while the Seeblick-Bänkliweg focuses on seating and views. This lets you base your choice more on timing or on views and opportunities to take a break.

Castles and Wartegg Park

Wiggen Castle was built in 1573. It is privately owned and is currently not open to the public. The history of St. Annaschloss dates back to the 12th century; this castle is also privately owned and is currently not open to the public. The information refers to different historical points: a construction year is given for Wiggen, while the history of St. Annaschloss dates back to the 12th century.

Wartegg Castle was built in 1557 on a former estate. Wartegg Park is a nationally significant garden monument and covers around 130,000 square metres. Shady streams and secluded clearings shape the park. During guided tours, knowledgeable association members take visitors through the English landscape park and explain the castle’s history and the park’s garden architecture. If you plan to join a tour, check the current booking arrangements. Wartegg Castle also offers a programme of cultural events and concerts; check the relevant dates before making plans. The restaurant at Wartegg Castle serves organic-certified cuisine using produce from its own castle garden. Menus and service arrangements may change, so check them in advance if you are interested.
