Lipperswil lies on the southern slope of the SeerĂĽcken ridge, north of the A7 motorway. The village is 491 metres above sea level; its elevation ranges from 461 to 597 metres above sea level. These two figures distinguish a single elevation from the full range. Golf, experiences at Conny-Land and historic buildings each offer a different aspect of a stay in Lipperswil.

Golf in Lipperswil: Course and Academy

Lipperswil Golf Course consists of three different 9-hole courses that can be combined in various ways. The Lipperswil Golf Academy offers individual and group lessons, as well as introductory, course-qualification and technique courses. Individual and group lessons refer to the format of instruction, while introductory, course-qualification and technique courses distinguish between different types of courses. The golf facility’s driving range is directly adjacent to Conny-Land, operates year-round and is open to everyone.

Conny-Land: Sea Lions and Dinosaurs

Two distinct experiences take centre stage at Conny-Land. Visitors who swim with sea lions learn about the animals’ way of life, anatomy and social behaviour, as well as species conservation. Dino-Attack, by contrast, offers a journey through a prehistoric world populated by lifelike dinosaurs. The difference lies in the theme: the sea lion experience combines an encounter with knowledge about the animals and their protection, while Dino-Attack focuses on a prehistoric world.

Evangelical Church and Building History

The Evangelical Church of Lipperswil was built in 1209 as a daughter church of Wigoltingen; it was rebuilt in 1490. The most recent interior renovation took place in 1963. The building features a massive north tower, a low polygonal choir and a short nave with new wooden ceilings. The choir contains stained-glass windows by Leon Knuchel from 1921 and Gottlieb Engeler from 1963. The dates refer to different aspects of the history: 1209 and 1490 relate to the building’s history, while 1921 and 1963 refer to the stained-glass windows; 1963 was also the year of the most recent interior renovation.

Local History and Kellhof

Lipperswil was first mentioned in a document in 1252 under the name Luimprechtswilær. The village initially belonged to the Barons of Bürglen; in 1284, it was sold to the Collegiate Foundation of St. John in Constance. The collegiate foundation held low justice until 1798. A painted inscription on the west gable of the Kellhof reads: “Kellhof, built in 1623, a fief of the Collegiate Foundation of St. John in Constance until 1798.” The year 1798 appears here in two contexts: it marks the end of the fief mentioned in the inscription and, at the same time, the end of the collegiate foundation’s low justice.

Circular Trail and Regional Cuisine

The 10-kilometre Napoleonturm circular trail follows the former church path through the Wolftobel gorge to Lipperswil Church. The Lion d’Or restaurant focuses on regional and seasonal cuisine.
