Plan hikes and trails

Pianezzo is located in the lower Valle Morobbia and includes the hamlet of Paudo. For hikes, the Policentro is a useful landmark: several named routes start there. The K14 Trail della Croce starts at the Policentro in Pianezzo, passes through Paudo, and then continues to Pian Dolce. The K33 Trail del lupo also starts at the Policentro of the Valle Morobbia in Pianezzo; the Morobbia Trail WALK also starts at the Policentro in Pianezzo. The Morobbia Trail WALK is suitable for everyone and was designed for families with children; dogs are allowed on a leash. Route details may change; check the latest information before setting out on a specific hike.

Another hiking reference point is the Capanna Genzianella. From Giubiasco, drive towards Val Morobbia; after Pianezzo, turn left towards Paudo. On foot, follow the signs towards Pian Dolce. The ascent takes one and a half hours. Since mountain conditions and trail signs can change, check the conditions and signage before setting out.

Church and local history

The parish church of St. Filippo e Giacomo stands on a hill above the village. It was built in the 16th century, incorporating the remains of an earlier church. Murals dating from 1557 survive on the main façade; they depict Saint Christopher and Saints Philip and George. Inside the church, there is also a large fragmentary fresco of the Last Supper, dating from the second half of the 16th century.

Another focus of cultural history is the Corte del Forno in Pianezzo. In the 15th century, the Muggiasca company from the Como and Bellinzona area processed iron ore mined from mines and open pits there. The plateau with the Corte del Forno was also crossed by the old San Jorio mule track. Pianezzo was first mentioned in 1382 under the name “Planezio.” The Lombard dialect spoken in Pianezzo belongs to the Ticino dialect group.

Themed trails in the Valle Morobbia

There are also two themed trails in the Valle Morobbia. The “La Via dell'Acqua” educational trail was created through a collaboration between Azienda Multiservizi Bellinzona (AMB) and Regione Valle Morobbia. Nine explanatory panels, supplemented with photographs, describe energy generation and the history of water use. “La Via del Ferro” traces historical connections between the Cavargna and Albano valleys in Lombardy and the Morobbia Valley in Ticino. The route passes via Motto della Tappa, also known as Cima Verta, at 2,078 metres, to historic mining and ironworking sites. The trails are easy to distinguish when choosing a theme: La Via dell'Acqua explains water and energy through its panels, while La Via del Ferro focuses on historic valley connections and sites associated with mining and ironworking.
