Dalpe is a municipality in the Swiss canton of Ticino, in the Quinto district and the Leventina district. The mountain village lies on a plateau at the entrance to Val Piumogna, a side valley of Valle Leventina. Meadows, larch and fir forests surround the village; the hamlet of Cornone is also part of the municipality.

Getting there and finding your way

Dalpe is accessible by public and private transport via a well-maintained cantonal road. The Quinto motorway exit is about 8 kilometres away. This gives you two practical reference points for your journey: the route via the cantonal road and the approximate distance to the exit.

Landscape and water in Val Piumogna

Val Piumogna lies within the municipality of Dalpe. The Piumogna River rises above Lago di Morghirolo, a mountain lake at the upper end of the valley. South of Dalpe, the river forms a waterfall that is visible from the village. The Capanna Campo Tencia of the Swiss Alpine Club is located in the upper Val Piumogna. The landscape description thus includes both a waterfall visible from the village and named places in the upper valley.

Winter activities around Bedrina

The Bedrina ski area in Dalpe lies at an altitude of 1,200 metres and operates seasonally. It is suitable for families, especially beginners and children. Facilities include a children's carousel, a pony lift and a conveyor belt. If you are planning a visit to the ski area, check the latest operating information before your trip.

The Pista di fondo a Dalpe cross-country ski trail is listed as 5 kilometres long and is suitable for both classic technique and skating. There are options to return to the starting point after 1.5, 2.5 or 3.5 kilometres. Two cross-country ski trails, ranging from 3.5 to 7.5 kilometres in length, are located near the Bedrina ski area. The details offer different points of reference: technique, total length and possible return distances.

Dalpe has four snowshoe trails with a wide variety of options. The Marmot is a loop route through Val Piumogna. Snow conditions may affect access; check trail conditions before setting out. On the marked snowshoe trails, crossing the bridge over Val Piumogna is not recommended because there is an avalanche zone beyond it.

When planning a winter stay, you can compare different features: Bedrina's altitude and target visitors, the techniques and trail lengths for cross-country skiing, and the loop route of The Marmot for snowshoeing.

Chiesa di S. Carlo

The Chiesa di S. Carlo in Dalpe is a rectangular church that was altered in the 19th century. Its bell tower is attached to the choir. Its floor plan, the period when it was altered, and the connection between the tower and choir provide a clear architectural context for the building.
