Cureglia: Casa Rusca and historic cultural sites
Accommodation in Cureglia
Cureglia combines architectural history, local cultural sites and practical leisure activities. Casa Rusca brings together a neoclassical palace and a landscaped garden; churches, the Oratorio and houses with frescoes add to the historic points of interest. For sports enthusiasts, there is the Tennis Club Cureglia, which offers limited guest access, as well as a tournament for D-junior teams held every year in June. If you are looking for a hotel in Cureglia, the focus of your trip can help guide your choice of activities.
Casa Rusca: Architecture and Garden
Casa Rusca was built by Vitale Rusca between 1820 and 1823. The neoclassical noble palace dates from the early 19th century. To the south of the villa, an Italian-style garden extends over one hectare. Its landscaped grounds include symmetrical plots and terraces. The municipality of Cureglia acquired Casa Rusca and the park in 1983. The architecture and structured garden show two distinct sides of the ensemble.
Churches, Houses and Cultural History
The parish church of San Cristoforo is a representative building dating from the 16th or 17th century. Relics of the Lebanese hermit San Charbel are kept in the church; the parish of Cureglia was founded on 9 December 1594. The Oratorio di Santa Maria del Buon Consiglio is classified as a cultural asset of local interest. Casa dei Tarilli is a 16th-century house with frescoes. Giovanbattista Tarilli was a 16th-century painter associated with Cureglia. There is a sundial in Piazzetta Cittadella. An old washhouse is located on the road from Cureglia to Comano.
Another historic point of interest is the open-air sculpture biennial, which took place in Parco Casa Rusca from 1991 to 2001. The cultural and historical timeline thus ranges from buildings of the 16th and 17th centuries to the turn of the millennium.
Tournament and Tennis
Every year in June, Calcio Giovanile Cureglia holds a traditional tournament for D-junior teams, with teams from the region taking part. If you would like to time your stay to coincide with the tournament, check the specific event dates in advance. The Tennis Club Cureglia has four Redplus clay courts. Two of them are covered by an air-supported dome in winter. Guests can rent the courts by the hour at certain times. The club also offers private and group lessons. Since guest access is limited to certain times, check in advance when guests can use the courts.
Historic Routes and Getting Your Bearings
Via Gaggio is designated as a historic transport route in Cureglia. Its natural surface is to be preserved, except in problematic sections. Another designated historic transport route runs from the Oratorio di Santa Maria del Buon Consiglio in the direction of Comano. Two aspects are therefore prominent among the local routes: their historic classification and—with Via Gaggio in particular—the preservation of its natural surface. Biblioteca Il Gustastorie is located at Via alla Chiesa, 6944 Cureglia, providing a specific address to help you find your way around the area.
