Porza lies on a sunny moraine ridge connecting two glaciers. At the same time, its elevated position offers views of the nearby city of Lugano, the lake and the surrounding mountains. Porza is part of the tourism area managed by Lugano Region. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Porza, you can choose your destination based on what you are looking for: views and hill trails, history and architecture, or a protected natural area. This makes it possible to decide what matters most before booking: the landscape, local history or art.

Porza between panoramic views and hill trails

Panoramic routes and trails lead to Porza Hill. The Scollinando project also includes the town in a network of eleven municipalities. Its walking routes can be used year-round, and some sections are also suitable for cycling. The routes pass through natural, cultural and architectural areas. This distinction is useful when planning an outing: the network connects different themes, while the view from the hill makes Porza’s landscape particularly clear.

One specific walking route in the town is Salita Cappelletta. It connects Strada Cantonale above with Via Poggiolo below. The renovation of the existing path is the subject of a municipal project. A municipal technical description from 2025 specifies different conditions for the access points: the lower access is freely accessible except for a few natural stone steps; the upper access points are restricted by double barriers to mopeds and motorcycles.

Church and local history

Porza’s historical and cultural monuments include the parish church of Santi Martino e Bernardino. The parish was separated from the parish of Comano in 1647; the present-day church dates from 1753. Its architecture combines Baroque forms with Neoclassical elements. The two years therefore mark different milestones: the separation of the parish and the construction of the present-day church. The Oratorio di San Rocco is also one of Porza’s cultural monuments.

Another historical milestone is 1597. During the visit of Monsignor Archinti, Bishop of Como, to the parish of Lugano, the first official document concerning the Vicini of Porza was recorded. Porza’s local history thus encompasses both ecclesiastical developments and early official records.

Masseria di Cornaredo and Museo Villa Pia

The Masseria di Cornaredo offers another historical perspective: a farm complex in the Lombard rural architectural style, protected as a local cultural asset in the territory of Porza. The Masseria was first documented in 1351. Historically, the complex was used for livestock farming, fodder production and agriculture; sericulture was added later. Following its restoration, the room with the lever wine press can be used for cultural visits and for gastronomic activities at the nearby Locanda. If you plan to visit this room, check access in advance.

Porza is also home to Museo Villa Pia, which is associated with the Erich Lindenberg Art Foundation. It is dedicated to preserving and promoting the work of German painter Erich Lindenberg (1938–2006), and serves as a place for meetings and cultural exchange. The focus on art thus complements the architectural and ecclesiastical history with an emphasis on the work of an individual artist and the exchange between people.

A protected natural area

The S. Francesco wetland is part of the natural landscape. It is protected, marked with signs and safeguarded by an access road closed to vehicles. This landscape is clearly distinct from the panorama from the hill: there, the view takes in Lugano, the lake and the mountains; at the wetland, the focus is on its protected status, signage and restrictions on vehicle access.
