Corbeyrier: Mountain Trails and Lake Geneva Views
Accommodation in Corbeyrier
Corbeyrier lies in the Aigle district and overlooks the village of Yvorne. Views from the surrounding area stretch across the Rhône plain to the upper end of Lake Geneva. The alpine pastures of Les Agittes offer a viewpoint over Lake Geneva along the road between Corbeyrier and La Lécherette. Since 2022, the municipality has been part of the Gruyère Pays-d’En-Haut Regional Nature Park due to its distinctive landscapes.
Landscapes and Trails Through the Seasons
The Vallon de l’Eau Froide stretches across Corbeyrier, Villeneuve and Roche and lies within the nationally designated IFP 1515 Tour d’Aï – Dent de Corjon landscape area. Most of the Joux-Verte forest is designated as a forest reserve. Joux-Verte can be reached on foot from Corbeyrier via the Sentier des quatre mélèzes; the trail leads to the Plateau des Agittes.
In summer, Corbeyrier offers numerous trails for walking and cycling. Activities range from the lower part of the municipality and the vineyards of Yvorne to the highest point near Leysin and the Kuklos. The hiking trails in the surrounding mountains are suitable for day hikes. In winter, snowshoe hikes are possible on the Plateau de Luan and on the La Praille and Gros Bois alpine pastures; the trails mentioned there are not marked.
Compare Hikes by Distance and Elevation Profile
The 2024 hiking map lists the Tour de Champillon / Sentier des Songes circular route as 2.7 km long and taking 58 minutes, with 175 m of ascent and descent each. The one-way Corbeyrier–Luan trail is listed as 2.6 km and 68 minutes, with 330 m of ascent and 65 m of descent. Despite their similar lengths, the estimated time for the trail to Luan is longer; the elevation profiles also differ considerably.
Two other circular routes offer a comparison for longer hikes: Corbeyrier–Boveau–Champ Riond–Vers-Cort–Corbeyrier is listed as 5.1 km, 104 minutes, and 326 m each of ascent and descent. The Sentier découverte de la Joux Verte circular route covers 9 km, takes 180 minutes, and has 523 m each of ascent and descent. The hiking map therefore lists both shorter and longer hikes, with estimated times and elevation gains. The Sentier de la Joux-Verte also leads to the remains of a dam and sluice structure from 1965, visible from a modern footbridge.
Local History and Events
Historical names also tell the story of how the place name developed: Curbiriaco is recorded in 1261, and Curbirie at the end of the 13th century. From 1577, the name Corberier appears, from which Corbeyrier developed.
The Festival Celtique de Corbeyrier, organised by the Confrérie du Loup, takes place every two years. At the beginning of summer, people drink mead, sing and dance there. The programme includes the Scottish Ceilidh, a dance tradition accompanied by singing; the steps and figures are explained and open to everyone. If you plan to attend the festival, check the specific dates. In December, a traditional Advent concert takes place in the Temple de Corbeyrier, organised jointly by the Confrérie du Loup and the municipality.
Getting Here and Finding Your Way Around
A bus serves the Aigle–Yvorne–Corbeyrier–Luan route. Check the operator’s current timetable when planning your trip. The Route de l’Hongrin connects Corbeyrier with La Lécherette and crosses the Petit Hongrin firing range in the centre of a military zone; check access conditions and firing restrictions before setting off.
At the junction of Route des Agittes and Chemin de la Grosse Pierre, there is a granite table and granite benches; an orientation board is nearby.
