Skiing and winter activities
The Les Mosses–La Lécherette ski area is connected to Leysin and covers more than 100 kilometres of slopes. Its features include wide runs and a snowpark. Beginners have a large snow park with games, small jumps, a conveyor belt, an Arrache-mitaine and a beginner platter lift. This makes it possible to distinguish the range of slopes from the area specifically described for beginners; facilities are seasonal. Biathlon takes place at Col des Mosses in winter. It combines shooting with travelling on cross-country skis or on foot. If you are planning a trip around winter sports, you will find several different types of activity here. Check the latest operating information before you travel.
Cross-country skiing, snowshoe trails and facilities
The Espace Nordique des Alpes Vaudoises has 42 kilometres of Nordic ski trails for classic and skating styles. In addition, 50 kilometres of snowshoe trails are regularly prepared there; trail preparation is seasonal. This lets you choose between cross-country skiing in two designated styles and snowshoeing on prepared trails. Facilities include the Maison de l’Espace Nordique. It is open to everyone and offers a waxing station, changing rooms with lockers, showers, toilets and a reception area. Access to the facility may vary by season. If you would like to use the facilities, check whether access is available during your travel dates before visiting.
Hike to Lac Lioson
The Les Mosses–Lac Lioson hiking route starts at Col des Mosses and leads to Lac Lioson. The lake lies above Les Mosses, has emerald-coloured water and is in a protected natural area. The route continues via Les Petits Lacs and then descends alongside a small stream. You can picnic on the shores of Lac Lioson after your hike. The lake is regularly stocked with fish and is home to Arctic char and rainbow trout. Fishing conditions and permits may vary; if fishing is part of your outing, check the applicable conditions in advance.
Alpine cheese and visiting conditions
At the Fromagerie du Lioson d'en Bas, visitors can watch the entire cheese-making process around a milk cauldron heated over a wood fire, from the milk curdling to the shaping of the cheese wheels. The Fromagerie also offers an introduction to traditional Alpine cheese-making, followed by a tasting. The demonstration is tied to the summer production season; visits are available seasonally or by request. If cheese-making is important to your stay, check in advance whether a visit is available on your chosen date.
