Bogis-Bossey is located in the Terre Sainte region of the canton of Vaud and consists of two settlements: Bogis, the main village, and Bossey, a hamlet on the border with the Geneva enclave of Céligny. The hamlet of Bossey includes the Château de Bossey, the Hostellerie, Petit-Bossey and Belle-Ferme. The municipality brings village life, historic sites and trails through the countryside together.

Landscape and wetlands

Forests, meadows and open views of Lake Geneva and the Alps shape the landscape. The Greny runs through the village between fields and forests towards Lake Geneva. The Versoix wetlands flow through Bogis-Bossey via the Canal du Greny; the wetland area is recognised and protected at both Swiss and European levels. It provides a habitat for beavers, wild boar, deer, roe deer and American crayfish. Common snipe spend the winter there, and the composition of the wildlife can vary seasonally.

The cross-border Marais des Bidonnes is also near Bogis-Bossey, extending across Divonne-les-Bains and Bogis-Bossey. A flat educational trail leads through the area from the Pont des ĂŽles; allow approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes for it. This distinguishes the longer route in terms of time from the hiking stages that begin or end in Bogis-Bossey.

Two hiking stages with different time requirements

Stage 28 of the Chemin panorama alpin runs from Nyon to Bogis-Bossey. This easy hike is 9 kilometres long and takes 2 hours and 10 minutes; the technical and fitness requirements are low. Stage 29 continues in the opposite direction, from Bogis-Bossey to Geneva: it is 28 kilometres long, classified as an easy hike and takes 6 hours and 50 minutes. Both figures refer to one-way stages.

This means there is a significant difference in distance and time required when planning. Check current route conditions and any possible closures before setting out. If you are looking for a shorter hiking stage, you can compare the details for Stage 28 with the longer Stage 29, without treating the two routes as equivalent in terms of the time needed.

History and architecture

The oldest historical traces of Bogis-Bossey date back to the 12th century. Following donations, the lands of Bogis and Bossey belonged to Bonmont Abbey; its Cistercian monks grew wine there. One specific historical milestone is the year 1125: at that time, Humbert, Bishop of Geneva, donated the former estate of the Château de Bossey to Bonmont Abbey.

The Château de Bossey comprises an 18th-century manor house with a medieval tower. It hosts banquets, weddings, conferences, seminars and retreats for up to 250 people. The programme and capacity may change; if you are interested, check the details for your planned event. The Canal du Greny is also part of the village’s history: it once provided the power to drive the Moulin de l’Oie.

Another historic building is the village inn, built in 1750. It was once used as a stable, dairy and school before becoming a café-restaurant. This succession of uses shows how a building in the village has changed over time to serve different purposes.

Local produce and practical information

Les Jardins de l’Ecossiau runs a farm shop in Bogis-Bossey, selling seasonal produce from its own farm and local producers. The selection and availability may vary by season. The Domaine de Belle-Ferme is an agricultural and wine-growing estate in the municipality. For open cellar days, farm breakfasts and markets, it uses a renovated former dairy barn as a reception hall; the event programme may vary.

TPN bus route 813 connects Bogis-Bossey with Coppet railway station in 16 minutes. Check the current timetable before travelling. There is a playground in the village centre with swings, a zip line and other play equipment. Facilities and access may change; confirm the conditions before your visit if needed. Public transport and specific local amenities complement the nature and history that can guide your stay.
