In Coinsins, local history, winegrowing and nature come together. The Château de Coinsins, the distinctive vineyard slope and the Bois de Chênes at the foot of the Jura offer different themes to consider when planning a stay. History enthusiasts will find both a château and archaeological sites; wine enthusiasts can view local winegrowing in the wider La Côte region. For nature lovers, the Bois de Chênes and the Sentier des Toblerones are another focus.

Château and Local History

The Château de Coinsins was built around 1715 by Jean Louis de Portes. The château as a whole is protected as a historic monument. Its grounds are also in a protected zone designated by a cantonal classification decision in 1996. The château is listed in the cantonal heritage register with note 2.

Archaeological finds also provide several points of reference for Coinsins’ past. Prehistoric hearths with pottery from the Late Bronze Age were discovered near Route de Trélex. Burgundian graves were uncovered on Martheray hill. The finds and the château represent different historical periods: the pottery dates from the Late Bronze Age, while the château was built around 1715.

Winegrowing and Cycling Route

The Vignoble du Château et ses abords is protected in its entirety as a historic monument and is listed with heritage protection note 2. Coinsins also has a distinctive vineyard slope protected by municipal regulations. The Route du vignoble de La Côte is a cycling route that passes through the winegrowing village of Coinsins. The La Côte winegrowing region is the largest in the canton of Vaud, covers more than 1,900 hectares and is considered the home of Chasselas. The figure of more than 1,900 hectares refers to La Côte as a whole, not to Coinsins alone.

Domaine des Papillons offers wine tastings on request; its address is Cordex 3, 1267 Coinsins. The wine shop at Domaine Z is located at Ch. du Grand-Pré 4, 1267 Coinsins, Switzerland.

Bois de ChĂŞnes and Trails

The Bois de ChĂŞnes extends across almost 140 hectares at the foot of the Jura, between Genolier, Coinsins, Begnins, Vich and Arzier-Le Muids. The area has a wide variety of habitats and is home to numerous rare and protected species. The Bois has been protected by a cantonal classification decision since 1966.

The Bois de ChĂŞnes is ideal for nature walks and offers plenty of space for family picnics or barbecues. A covered shelter is available to visitors during the day. The Bois can be reached by train via Genolier and by bus via Vich. The Sentier des Toblerones runs alongside the Bois de ChĂŞnes and heads towards Lake Geneva, ending at Promenthoux beach.
