Crassier brings together Roman traces, medieval local history and local traditions. It is also home to a cycling museum, municipal sports facilities and cultural offerings. If you are considering Crassier as a destination, these different highlights can help you plan around your interests: history, community life or physical activity. Regional bus services also provide a practical starting point for planning your trip.

Roman Traces and Medieval History

The Crassier region was already inhabited in Roman times and is associated with a Roman aqueduct that carried water from Divonne to Nyon. A section of the Roman aqueduct was reconstructed with ancient materials at the Crassier roundabout. Roman history can therefore be seen both in this regional water link and in a tangible reconstruction in the village.

The Temple of Crassier dates from the 12th century and has been remodelled several times. An arbitration ruling in 1225 assigned the church of Crassier to the Abbot of Bonmont. These two dates highlight different aspects: the temple represents medieval architectural history and subsequent alterations, while the ruling records a specific ecclesiastical affiliation.

Religious Sites, the Village Square and Local Traditions

The Catholic chapel of Crassier is the former chapel of the Moiry Dam in Valais. Its history thus brings a specific connection to Valais into the story of the village. There is also a distinctive object in the temple: a large Catholic family from the Geneva area made the baptismal tree in the form of a family tree. Outside the annual celebration, it remains permanently in the temple’s choir. The baptismal tree thus combines its genealogical design with a permanent place in this religious space.

The village square is home to a granite fountain with the sculpture “Le lien”, which symbolises French-Swiss friendship. The Musée du Vélo offers a different focus: visitors can admire bicycles belonging to leading professional cyclists. The museum therefore broadens the focus beyond buildings and local history to include cycling.

The Abbaye de Crassier “La Sentinelle Fédérale” adds another local tradition. Founded in 1852, it is a brotherhood of shooting enthusiasts committed to patriotic and traditional values. The name therefore represents an organised local community, not just a historic site.

Sport, Culture and Getting Around the Village

The Grande Salle at Place du Lien is a 200 m² hall for performances and banquets. These specifications were published in 2025; if you are planning to use the hall for a particular event, confirm current availability and applicable terms in advance. This makes the hall a venue for events, while the sports ground offers a different focus.

The publicly accessible sports ground has facilities for football, volleyball, basketball, running and jumping, and is open to people of all ages. The various facilities cater for ball sports as well as running and jumping. Crassier en scène is also part of local cultural life: the troupe presents a performance each year. If you would like to plan your trip around a particular date, check whether the performance falls during your travel dates.

Crassier is served by the TPN regional bus network. Route 813 connects the village with Coppet and Chavannes-des-Bois. Check the timetable for your travel day if you wish to use this connection.
