Duillier brings together architectural heritage, winegrowing, trails and a rural landscape.

Buildings and Stories of the Village

Duillier’s most significant architectural heritage is concentrated along Rue du Château. It includes the château, the Grange des Dîmes, the school and the church. The Grange des Dîmes is listed as a Category A cultural property in the 2026 cantonal inventory of the Canton of Vaud. The château dates from the 12th century, was rebuilt in the 16th century and is a private manor house.

The château is also connected to the history of theatre: the story of Le Carlaton, Duillier’s theatre, began in 1986 at Château de Duillier. The surveying of Mont Blanc provides another link to the area’s cultural history. In 1685, Nicolas Fatio de Duillier, assisted by his brother Jean-Christophe, was the first to measure its height, at 4,728 m. The name Duillier is associated with the Roman name “Dulliacum”.

Trails and Routes Around Duillier

The routes differ mainly in their itineraries. The Autour de Nyon route goes from Nyon via Prangins, Duillier and Changins and back to Nyon; it is rated T1 and classified as easy. The Vaud-Rando stage from Aubonne to Nyon also passes through Duillier and is technically easy, likewise rated T1. This offers a choice between a route that returns to Nyon and a stage starting in Aubonne; their shared T1 rating provides a concrete point of comparison.

The Route du vignoble de La Côte starts in Morges, crosses vineyards via Duillier to Nyon, and offers views of Lake Geneva, the Alps and Mont Blanc. Seasonal conditions can affect access; check the latest information before setting out. The Chemin de Calèves is another route used by pedestrians and cyclists; it passes a manor house and outbuilding in a green, tree-lined setting.

Agriculture, Nature and Local Offerings

Agriculture is more than a part of Duillier’s history: farmers and winegrowers are still active in the village, and cattle and sheep regularly graze within it. The restored Calèves stream is lined mostly with oak trees, which are home to the protected great capricorn beetle. This brings together agriculture and a specific nature-conservation issue. For those interested in nature and heritage, this landscape perspective complements the historic buildings along Rue du Château.

The Auberge de Duillier lists Charbonnades and fillets of lake whitefish among its specialities. During opening hours, wine tastings featuring wines from the estate are available at the Caveau des Château de Duillier; private tasting events can also be arranged. The Marché à la ferme in Duillier offers seasonal fruit and vegetables, cider and wine. At Jacques Mugnier’s Marché à la ferme, wine tastings in the estate’s wine cellar are available for private events; arrangements must be made in advance. The tasting formats therefore differ: at the Caveau, tastings are tied to opening hours, while at Jacques Mugnier they are part of a private event arranged in advance.
