Accommodation in Risch
Risch is in the canton of Zug and comprises the localities of Risch, Rotkreuz, Buonas and Holzhäusern. The area stretches from the shores of Lake Zug to rolling hills, with nature, residential areas and agricultural land in between. Several themes can help you plan your stay: church and architectural history, Binzmühle Pond, lakeside paths and seasonal visits to the Buonas peninsula.
Churches, architectural history and local traditions
St. Verena Church in Risch was built between 1680 and 1684 and consecrated on 22 October 1684. The building history of present-day Buonas Castle spans several phases: after the fire of 1478, its main structure was rebuilt between 1494 and 1498, followed by further alterations up to 1700. These dates provide a specific timeline for both buildings.
The Risch Chilbi is a fair for children and families. Its character and atmosphere have been preserved since it opened in 1979. The festivities include food stalls as well as game and merchandise stalls. Another cultural meeting place is the Binzi-Treff at the Binzmühle: this community space can be used for small gatherings, cultural events and courses.
Nature and paths
Binzmühle Pond is a nationally important amphibian spawning site and a cantonal nature reserve. A cantonal report dated 20 May 2026 lists common toads, common frogs, pool frogs and Alpine newts at the pond. On the same day, the canton announced the completion of the ecological enhancement work. After it was completed, the canton reported that paths around the pond had been renovated and made more attractive, and that benches and upgraded barbecue areas with firewood available had been provided.
Walking and hiking trails run along Lake Zug in Risch and the surrounding area, and through the landscape between the lake and the hills. The “Risch – Cham – Zug” hiking route was successfully re-signposted in October 2025 as part of a pilot project; the canton documented its status in May 2026. The Binzmühle can be reached on foot or by bicycle.
Visits to the Buonas peninsula
The Buonas peninsula is open to the public three times a year. Exact dates are announced in the local events calendar. The traditional spring walk takes place in May. Visitors can see blooming rhododendrons, a pond with water lilies, the castle and its courtyard. Event dates vary from year to year, so check the calendar before planning your visit.
Playground, lakeside swimming area and golf
The See playground is in Buonas, one of Risch’s localities, right by the lake next to the boat landing. It has a large fenced play area, a play tower, a swing and a slide. The lakeside swimming area is also in Buonas, at St. Germanstrasse 1. Check the current operating conditions before visiting.
In Holzhäusern, also one of Risch’s localities, the practice areas at the Migros golf facilities are open to interested visitors. The operating regulations dated 1 January 2024 allowed all interested visitors to use these practice areas, including those in Holzhäusern. Check the current conditions before visiting.
