Discover Aeugst am Albis
Accommodation in Aeugst Am Albis
For a stay in Aeugst am Albis, you can choose from different focal points, including nature at Lake Türler, hiking trails and cultural attractions. Cultural themes range from the mine and protected buildings to changing projects at KommBox.
Nature at Lake Türler and in the municipality
Lake Türler is an important local recreation area and lies mostly within the municipality of Aeugst am Albis. You can hike, swim, birdwatch and walk around the lake there. If you focus your stay on the lake, choose between walking, spending time by the water and watching birds.
More than 20 different orchid species and several gentian species grow in the Lake Türler area. Hexengraben has a different landscape history: it was once a bay of the lake and is now a wetland that provides valuable habitat for rare marsh plants. The diversity of plant life in the lakeside area and Hexengraben’s transformation into a wetland therefore offer distinct nature themes.
The municipality’s topography includes the Reppisch Valley and the southern slope of Aeugsterberg, which extends into the Jonental Valley. Aeugst am Albis and the hamlets of Aeugstertal, Müliberg, Habersaat and Wengi lie in an almost circular pattern around the wooded Aeugsterberg; the Reppisch flows through the upper Reppisch Valley. The waters flow via the Reppisch to the Limmat and via the Jonenbach to the Reuss. The lowest point is in Wengi in the Jonental Valley at 536 m above sea level, and the highest is on the Albis ridge at 885 m above sea level.
Hiking trails and outdoor recreation
The hike from Felsenegg to Affoltern am Albis goes via the Albis Pass and Lake Türler, then continues through Aeugst. Another section of trail leads from the hamlet of Uttenberg via Rebhüsli and the village centre towards the Zug border and the hamlet of Baaregg. The first route description connects two named endpoints via regional landmarks; the second lists a sequence of stops leading to Baaregg. It is advisable to check the current route for this section of trail.
The Bolet recreation area has plenty of play equipment and a barbecue area. It adds another outdoor activity to the hiking and nature options. As facilities may change, check them before your visit.
Culture and protected buildings
The museum and tunnel of the Riedhof Mine Association are open to visitors, schools and groups on selected Saturdays. If you plan a visit, check the opening dates before setting off.
The church in Aeugst am Albis and the Spycher in Habersaat are protected at cantonal level. KommBox in Aeugst am Albis is an exhibition space for projects and presentations; the exhibitions vary. Alongside the protected buildings and the mine, you can also find a venue whose cultural themes change with each project.
