Discover Feuerthalen on the Rhine
Accommodation in Feuerthalen
Feuerthalen lies on the Rhine in a landscape shaped by the river, north of the densely forested Cholfirst and directly opposite the city of Schaffhausen. A road bridge and a railway bridge connect Feuerthalen with Schaffhausen. If you are looking for a hotel in Feuerthalen, you can plan your stay around your interests: the Rhine meadow offers time by the river, the Three Towers Tour is a circular hike, the FĂĽrstengut municipal building is a point of interest for architectural history, and Hilari is a recurring festival. This gives you a suitable focus for your trip before you compare specific hotel offers based on their details.
Time on the Rhine
The Rheinwiese leisure park is located right on the banks of the Rhine. It includes a lawn for sunbathing and games, where you can enjoy a swim. It is a specific destination for anyone who wants to include time by the river in their plans. The park is a ten-minute walk from the “Langwiesen” or “Feuerthalen” stops. Check the latest travel information before your visit.
Three towers on the Cholfirst
The “Three Towers Tour on the Cholfirst” circular hike starts at Feuerthalen railway station and links three observation towers. If you plan to take this route, check trail conditions before setting out.
The Rhine meadow and the Three Towers Tour offer different options for planning your day: at the Rhine meadow, the focus is on the lawn for sunbathing and games right on the banks of the Rhine; the tour is a circular hike linking three observation towers and starting at Feuerthalen railway station. If you are choosing between spending time by the river and going for a hike, plan around the activity you want to make the focus of your visit.
Architectural and local history
The original building of the FĂĽrstengut municipal building was erected in the 16th century by a Schaffhausen family. The building has a core dating from the 16th century, as well as eastern and western extensions whose lower sections date from the 17th century. The municipal building has spacious grounds with a fountain. The building thus combines an older core with extensions whose lower sections date from a later period.
The existing St. Leonhard Chapel in Feuerthalen was first mentioned in 1390. Feuerthalen itself was first mentioned in a document in 1318 under the name “Furtal an dem Rine”. The name Feuerthalen derives from a ford that existed there in the Middle Ages. Feuerthalen has held market rights since 1528.
Hilari in January
Hilari has been celebrated for more than 600 years during the week of 13 January in Feuerthalen, Langwiesen, Flurlingen and Uhwiesen. During the Hilari festival weekend, garages are transformed into bars. The event therefore provides a clear date around which to plan a January trip. If you would like to time your stay to coincide with Hilari, check the exact festival dates in advance.
