Humlikon in the Zurich Wine Country
Accommodation in Humlikon
Humlikon is a village in the municipality of Andelfingen in the north of the canton of Zurich. It lies in the Zurich Wine Country between Schaffhausen and Winterthur. If you are looking for a hotel in Humlikon, hiking trails, rural scenery and equestrian sports can help you choose your destination. The hiking descriptions lead towards Humlikon; the riding school and show jumping competitions represent the sport of show jumping.
Hiking and scenery
The “Kultur: Weinland” hike, revised in 2019, follows a vineyard and then a shaded forest trail towards Humlikon. The “Wanderbänkli Dinhard” hike, published in 2025, also follows a vineyard first and then a shaded forest trail on its section towards Humlikon. The transition from vineyard to forest is a specific point of comparison when choosing between the described hikes.
The “Wanderbänkli Dinhard” hike can be shortened at various bus stops. Check routes and stops before setting off. Before starting the “Kultur: Weinland” hike, check the trail conditions.
In 2018, 62.0 percent of the former municipal area of Humlikon was used for agriculture, while 28.0 percent was forested. In December 2025, a walnut plantation with 125 trees of two varieties originating in France was described between Humlikon and Henggart, covering around 1.5 hectares. The description also presented the walnut trees as contributing to biodiversity and climate protection. Agriculture, vineyards, forests and walnut cultivation thus offer different insights into the rural surroundings.
Riding school and show jumping competitions
The FreimĂĽller riding school in Humlikon offers show jumping lessons for adults aged 16 and over, from beginners to advanced riders. If you are looking for lessons, age and previous experience are specific points of reference for your interest in equestrian sports.
Show jumping competitions have been held at the family-run riding centre on the edge of the village since its opening in 1993. In Knock-Out show jumping, two horse-and-rider pairs compete head-to-head over two identical courses. Admission to the LerchPartner.ch CS Humlikon is free; please check the event details for future editions.
At the LerchPartner.ch CS Humlikon, held from Thursday, 1 September, to Sunday, 4 September 2022, the programme included show jumping events in regional and national categories from B/R90 to N145. There were also events for four-, five- and six-year-old young horses. The programme for the fourth LerchPartner.ch CS Humlikon in 2025 included 27 events for beginners, seniors, riders with young horses, as well as ambitious amateurs and professionals. The examples from the two years offer insight into different event formats and groups of participants, but are not details of future programmes.
Coat of arms and local history
Humlikon’s historic coat of arms is associated with the family of the Barons of Humlikon and uses heraldic symbols for arable farming and viticulture. The coat of arms thus brings together a connection to local history and two agricultural themes.
