Hittnau: Cross-country skiing, hiking trails and Werdegg
Accommodation in Hittnau
A trip to Hittnau can include several specific themes: cross-country skiing, hikes and walks, historical sites, and outdoor activities. If you are looking for a hotel in Hittnau, the activities you have in mind can shape the focus of your stay. The trails differ in discipline and length; Werdegg offers both historical context and visible traces in the landscape.
Cross-country skiing on the Stoffel trail
The Stoffel trail in Hittnau offers a 12 km trail for classic cross-country skiing. It also includes a 6 km skating route in DĂĽrstelen. A section of about 3 km for both skating and classic skiing runs from the SchĂĽtzenhaus to Hasel. The details vary by discipline and section, so when planning, take these distinctions into account rather than comparing only the distances. As a seasonal winter activity, conditions depend on the snow. Check the current situation before finalizing your cross-country skiing plans.
Hiking trails and other activities
Hittnau has numerous trails for hikes and walks. The 23 km Jakob Stutz Trail passes the key places in Jakob Stutz’s life. Along the trail, 14 information panels with text and images, as well as a QR code, provide information about his life and work. The trail’s stated length is thus combined with a biographical theme explored by the panels. Nordic walking in Hittnau is located at the Schützenhaus on Nauenstrasse, 8335 Hittnau. Dürstelen is also home to a golf course that has been operating in the municipality for forty years and is run by the Hittnau Golf and Country Club.
Werdegg Castle Site and local history
The former Werdegg Castle is considered the historical heart of the municipality of Hittnau. Today, only a wooded hill remains; no wall remnants are visible there. However, castle moats are still visible in the terrain at the Werdegg Castle Site. They belonged to a medieval castle that was destroyed by the Confederates in May 1444. The site is about 300 metres north of the Hittnau, Luppmen bus stop; check current public transport connections for your journey. There is a public picnic area with a fire pit on the grounds of the outer bailey. Facilities can change, so check the condition of the area before your visit.
Many buildings in Hittnau have survived to this day; most are Reihenflarze and small farmhouses from the 18th and 19th centuries. Many of these buildings have been renovated in recent years. The present-day Reformed church was built in 1708 and consecrated on 25 November of that same year.
Fondue for groups
During the winter season, the Loipen-Pintli arranges fondue evenings for groups of at least four and no more than fourteen people, with advance booking. If you are planning such a meal, take the advance booking requirement and group size into account.
