Lindau combines historical landmarks with trails exploring nature and industry, as well as opportunities for exercise and golf. If you are looking for a hotel in Lindau, these different areas of interest can help you plan your trip. The border stone garden takes you through several centuries, the Kempt Trail combines hiking and industrial history, and the Vitaparcours focuses on exercise in Lindau Forest.

Border Stones from Several Centuries

The border stone garden is located at the Berghof works yard in Winterberg and can be visited at any time. It is the first border stone garden in the Canton of Zurich. The border stones on display there come from Lindau and date from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. This brings evidence from a long span of time together in one place. Anyone interested in historical boundaries can explore different periods here through tangible objects. This focus sets the garden apart from the trails, where exercise and other themes take center stage.

Trails with Different Themes

The Kempt Trail is around five kilometers long and has 16 information boards. Along the hiking trail, objects related to industrial history and natural history are complemented by several picnic spots. A section of around three kilometers runs from the former Mannenberg Mill to Kemptthal station. The Maggi food factory complex is also part of the route; it is a highlight of industrialization in the Kemptthal. The Kempt Trail thus combines a walking route with industrial history and insights into nature.

The Farm Trail offers a different thematic focus. This interactive experience trail in Lindau ZH runs from Strickhof to Kleinikon and has twelve stations. They cover various aspects of agriculture, as well as consumption and climate. The Farm Trail therefore focuses on different questions than the Kempt Trail: its stations also address how we deal with consumption and climate, while the Kempt Trail combines industrial and natural history. If you are choosing between the two trails, you can base your decision on these themes.

Exercise, Church and Other Impressions

The Finnish track starts right by Strickhof. It is 400 meters long and made of sawdust and bark chips; the track offers an opportunity to train. The Vitaparcours is located in Lindau Forest, is 1.8 kilometers long and has an elevation difference of 10 meters. It provides a balanced workout for endurance, flexibility and strength. The routes therefore differ both in length and in the type of training described.

Lindau Church also offers specific historical and architectural details. It was consecrated in 1896. The metal and glass entrance door was installed in 1968 and depicts the Christian symbols of bread, wine and fish. The two dates represent different aspects: the church’s consecration and a building element installed later. The door’s materials and symbolism add a distinctive detail to this historical context.

The Kemptthal nature trail is located at the Kemptthal service area. It invites visitors to take a break, get moving and discover something new. Winterberg Golf Course has a 9-hole course and offers beautiful views of the Alps. The activities described therefore range from themed trails and historical sights to training and golf.
