If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Schwerzenbach, the town offers a range of starting points for planning your trip: routes along the streams, a church with Neoclassical and Baroque elements, library offerings and recurring events.

Location and waterways

Schwerzenbach lies north of Lake Greifensee, east of the city of Zurich and on the border of the Zurich Oberland. The lake, the city and the border of the Zurich Oberland thus serve as different regional reference points. The Chimlibach runs through the town and flows into the Glatt; this watercourse adds a local point of reference to the broader geographical context.

Routes between streams, forest and meadows

Route A, “Glatt–Chimlibach,” runs along the streams around Schwerzenbach. Route B, “Breitenstuden,” passes through residential areas, forest and meadows; you can do exercises at its Vita Parcours stations. The difference can be summed up briefly when choosing: Route A focuses on the creekside setting, while Route B combines built-up and green landscapes with exercise stations. If you choose excursions based on scenery or opportunities for exercise, the two routes offer different points of reference.

Church and local history

The Reformed Church of Schwerzenbach was consecrated on December 19, 1813. Its Neoclassical and Baroque elements make it a building that bridges stylistic periods; it is also considered one of the most original church buildings in the Canton of Zurich. In 2022, a new glass vestibule and a wheelchair-accessible ramp were built at the south entrance. In the Middle Ages, Schwerzenbach was associated with the former lordship of Greifensee, and since 1798 it has been an independent municipality in the Canton of Zurich. According to legend, Einhard, the local saint of Schwerzenbach, is said to be buried at the old church, which was destroyed in 1444 during the Old Zurich War.

Library and communal Tavolata

The Schwerzenbach Library is open to everyone and offers reading areas and workspaces. Its regular program includes readings, creative workshops and informative talks; individual events may vary. So if you would like to include a particular date in your travel plans, it is worth checking the program.

“Chuchi International” takes place once a month in the evening at the Catholic parish center St. Gabriel, Dorfstrasse 9a, in Schwerzenbach. The communal Tavolata format includes an aperitif or starter, a main course and dessert. The date may change, so check it in advance if it is important to your plans.

Village festival and seasonal swimming

The Schwerzenbach village festival has been held in 2023 and 2025; the next planned edition is scheduled for July 9–11, 2027. If you would like to plan a trip around it, check the dates before booking.

The Schwerzenbach indoor swimming pool is open to the public and offers Aquafit and swimming. Public swimming is limited to the winter semester: it runs from after the autumn holidays until the spring holidays; the indoor pool is closed during school holidays. Check access and activity times before your visit, as both may change.
