Lanett on the Chattahoochee: River, Golf, and History
Accommodation in Lanett
Lanett lies on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, on the border between Alabama and Georgia. The river, recreational offerings, and local history give the city a range of distinct highlights. As you plan your trip, consider which of these themes matter most for your stay—from fishing on the river to historic sites.
Riverfront Setting and Recreational Activities
The Chattahoochee River runs along Lanett’s shoreline and forms Alabama’s eastern border with Georgia. Fishing, paddling, and hiking are possible along the river. This puts a variety of options in the spotlight: you can fish, paddle along the river, or go hiking. These activities connect Lanett with the river and offer a different focus from the city’s recreational offerings.
The city’s parks and recreation program includes basketball, football, track and field, fitness, and swimming. The range extends from ball sports and track and field to fitness and swimming activities. The activities may change over time.
The Point University Golf Club offers public recreational golf and dining. Its event center has rooms for business meetings, training sessions, social groups, and church group meetings. Availability may vary for specific events. Golf and dining appeal to different interests than the spaces for business or community gatherings.
Local History and Historic Sites
The Fraternal Hall and Stores building stands in downtown Lanett. The distinctive two-story building was constructed in 1906 and still stands today. Lanett’s train station offers a different historical perspective: until 1923, it served both the Chattahoochee Valley (CV) Railway Company and the Western Railway of Alabama. The surviving building and the former rail service represent different chapters in the area’s history.
Fort Tyler can be explored on a self-guided tour and is considered the site of the last known fort battle of the American Civil War. It is located in both Lanett, Alabama, and West Point, Georgia. The Dollhouse is a local landmark whose history visitors can learn about.
Little Nadine’s Playhouse is a unique brick mausoleum over a child’s grave in Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett. Together, these sites reflect different historical themes: Fort Tyler is associated with the Civil War, while the Dollhouse and the mausoleum each tell their own local stories.
