Hoover: Trails, Gardens and History
Accommodation in Hoover
Hoover offers a range of ways to spend your stay: rock formations and hiking trails, parks with a variety of activities, opportunities to observe nature, and a historic house. If you’re looking for a hotel in Hoover, these destinations can help you plan your visit around your interests—whether you want to spend time outdoors, include an indoor climbing facility, or explore local history.
Nature Among Rocks, Forest and Water
Moss Rock Preserve is a 349-acre nature preserve with wooded areas, large rock outcrops, streams and waterfalls. Wildlife and other distinctive natural features are also part of this landscape. With nearly 12 miles of trails, the preserve offers a concrete option for travelers who want to make hiking a bigger part of their stay. The trail length describes what’s available, not how much time you should plan for a hike.
Inverness Nature Park offers a different kind of park landscape: this 77-acre, wooded, natural park includes trails, native wildlife, streams and picnic areas. It also has an 18-hole disc golf course. Different throwing options and levels of difficulty appeal to players with varying levels of experience. Along with trails, the park offers a dedicated activity and places to take a break outdoors.
Trails and Activities for Different Interests
Flemming Park has hiking and biking trails. The park also offers a boat launch that provides access to the Cahaba River. The river is also notable for its biodiversity: it is considered one of only eight biodiversity hotspots in the world. Hiking and biking on the one hand, and access to the river on the other, offer different ways to shape your visit.
Hoover Heights adds an indoor activity to the mix. The indoor climbing facility is located in the Finley Center at the Hoover Met Complex. You can include it as a separate activity if climbing is one of your interests; the other destinations mentioned offer different experiences, such as trails, nature and river access.
Gardens and Birdwatching
Aldridge Gardens is part of the Appalachian Highlands Alabama Birding Trail. If you’re interested in birdwatching, this connection offers a specific point of interest; it does not indicate which bird species you may see during a visit. Aldridge Gardens is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., unless a special event or severe weather affects operations. Hours may change, so check them before your visit.
A Historic Landmark in Hoover
The Overseer’s House was built in 1889 at the corner now known as Chapel Road and Park Avenue, in Bluff Park. On September 28, 2000, it was added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage. The precise date and its inclusion on the register give the house a clear historical significance alongside the city’s nature and recreational offerings.
If you’d also like to plan for climbing, you can add Hoover Heights to your itinerary. This way, your search for a hotel can be guided by the activities that interest you in Hoover.
