Rivers, Lakes, and Trails

In Demopolis, in the northernmost part of Marengo County, the Black Warrior River meets the smaller Tombigbee River. The Tombigbee forms the county’s western boundary. Numerous tributaries offer scenic views and opportunities for recreation. The main transportation routes in the county are U.S. Highways 43 and 80.

There is ample parking along the path, as well as several benches and a small pavilion. It is suitable for birdwatching; depending on the season, you may see swallows, Purple Martins, long-legged wading birds, gulls, and waterfowl.

Spillway Falls Park is located below Demopolis Lock and Dam. From a wide viewing platform, you can see the dam, rocky stretches of rapids, and shallow sections of the river. A level path leads through a stand of bottomland hardwood trees.
