Peoria combines Spring Training with trails in the Sonoran Desert, park amenities and performing arts. Visitors traveling for sports plan differently from those focused mainly on a stage production or time outdoors. Tailor your search to the activity that will shape your stay.

Spring Training in Peoria

Since 1994, Peoria Sports Complex has served as a Spring Training facility for the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres. For the 2026 Spring Training season, the training fields for both teams were open to the public. Admission was free throughout the season, and visitors could watch team workouts during opening hours. If you are planning for another year, check the season dates and opening hours again, as seasonal schedules and operational details may change.

Lake Pleasant and Peoria’s Trail System

Lake Pleasant Regional Park, north of Peoria, has 148 RV and tent campsites. These campsites are a camping option and therefore a different type of accommodation from a hotel. Peoria’s trail system provides access to the hills and valleys of the Sonoran Desert. It includes 12.5 miles along the New River and 11.25 miles of mountain trails. These figures distinguish between two types of trails: the route along the New River and the mountain trails.

When planning your trip, you can consider your overnight accommodation and outdoor activities separately: the campsites are part of Lake Pleasant Regional Park, while the mileage figures describe the trail system. If you choose Peoria for outdoor experiences, the river route and mountain trails offer different ways to shape your stay.

Theater, Musicals and Outdoor Music

The Peoria Center for the Performing Arts is a 250-seat theater and home to Theater Works. During its season, it presents live theater and musical productions. Arizona Broadway Theatre offers professional musicals and an upscale dining experience. Their stated focuses set them apart: Theater Works and the seasonal stage program are at the heart of the Peoria Center, while professional musicals and the dining experience go together at Arizona Broadway Theatre.

Harmony Park in Osuna Park complements these stage offerings with an interactive outdoor musical installation. Alongside seasonal productions, visitors can also choose an outdoor music experience and a different kind of cultural activity.

Parks and a Historic Landmark

Rio Vista Community Park & Recreation Center offers, among other things, splash areas and skate parks. These two amenities represent different recreational activities at the same facility. Peoria Central School in Downtown Peoria dates to 1906. This historic landmark adds another point of interest to the parks and performing arts offerings.
