Rio Verde: Golf, Wellness and Horse Encounters
Accommodation in Rio Verde
Rio Verde combines a strong golf profile with other sports and wellness offerings, as well as guided horse encounters. For planning your trip, the specific differences between the golf options can help; ranch visits require appointments, and members of the public can use some wellness facilities. The desert setting and named views add a connection to the landscape to the focus on sports.
Golf Courses and Desert Scenery
Rio Verde Country Club has two 18-hole courses: Quail Run and White Wing. White Wing features a modern links design, with rolling fairways, strategically placed bunkers and dynamic greens. Quail Run, by contrast, has a traditional design, lush fairways and a classic character. If you compare the courses by design, you can choose between these two distinct profiles; both have 18 holes.
Tonto Verde Golf Club also offers two 18-hole championship courses, the Peaks Course and the Ranch Course. Verde River Golf & Social Club is located in Arizona’s Sonoran Desert next to Tonto National Forest, with views of the Mazatzal Mountains and Four Peaks. Thus, Rio Verde’s landscape includes not only golf courses but also desert scenery, forest and named mountain views.
Sports, Classes and Wellness
Sports offerings extend beyond the golf courses. Rio Verde has six tennis courts with Nova’ProBounce surfaces, including two lighted courts. During the week, the tennis club offers ranked or rated play, team trips and club tournaments. There are four pickleball courts, with the option to increase the number to six by using a tennis court. By comparison, the number of six tennis courts is fixed, while expanding the pickleball courts depends on using a tennis court.
The 2,500-square-foot fitness center offers personal trainers. The on-site art studio offers guided drawing and painting classes. This means the leisure offerings include both sports and creative classes. Rio Verde’s heated swimming pool and spa area includes a waterfall and lap lanes.
Alvea Spa, Salon & Wellness at Verde River Golf & Social Club welcomes members of the public; appointments are required. The spa offers full-body massages and private relaxation rooms. Members of the public also have access to an outdoor hot tub and an infinity pool with a beach entry. This combination differs from the lap lanes in the heated swimming pool and spa area: here, the focus is also on massages, relaxation rooms and pools.
Horse Encounters and Equestrian Activities
At Reigning Grace Ranch, the adult Mane to Tail program includes a guided tour of Critter Corner and the horse paddocks. It also includes grooming and personal interaction with a horse; appointments are required for the program. During ranch tours, visitors can meet more than 85 horses. The animals include adult horses and miniature horses, as well as donkeys.
The ranch offers scheduled tours. Available dates and times are listed in the events calendar and may change. Check the calendar when planning a tour. This lets you coordinate your visit with the available tour times rather than assuming there are fixed times.
Rio Verde Saddle Club was founded in 1979 and is located at the historic Rio Verde Box Bar Ranch. The club provides access to numerous trails in the neighboring Tonto National Forest and county parks that can be used for horseback riding. So, alongside guided encounters at the ranch, equestrian activities are also represented by a dedicated club and its access to trails.
