Discover Crossett: Parks, Water and History
Accommodation in Crossett
In Crossett, recreation at Lucas Pond, local history and event venues come together. If you’re looking for a hotel, these different attractions can guide your trip planning: fishing and lakeside trails call for different considerations than a festival, a tour by appointment or trails in a nature refuge.
Lucas Pond and Parks
Lucas Pond is a 51-acre lake with fishing piers. A 2.8-mile hiking trail runs along the shore, and interactive signs highlight the park’s nature. Boats with electric or battery-powered motors are subject to a geographic restriction: they are allowed on the larger part of the lake. Boats can access the water via a boat ramp. This means the defined lakeside trail, fishing and boating subject to restrictions on motor type and lake area can be considered as separate activities.
Centennial Park is on Main Street, across from City Hall, and has gardens and a fountain. Its location and park grounds offer another point of interest in Crossett, in addition to the lake and its specifically mentioned activities.
Cabins and Local History
Yale Cabin Camp operated from 1946 to 1966. Its facilities included living cabins, accommodations for faculty, a shower house and a dining hall. The Yale Cabins were relocated to Crossett City Park and are now next to the park.
The Wiggins Cabin was built in the 1830s; an exact replica now stands in its place. The Old Company House Museum combines a former sawmill worker’s shotgun-style house with a handmade replica of a pioneer cabin from the 1830s. Museum tours are available by prior appointment. These sites highlight different periods of history: the Wiggins Cabin and the pioneer cabin replica refer to the 1830s, while Yale Cabin Camp dates to the later period from 1946 to 1966.
Events and Music
Crossett City Auditorium offers about 1,000 seats and is available year-round for concerts, recitals and other performances and events. The schedule may vary. The Wiggins Cabin Festival takes place every year; dates and programming may change. The Jeffress School of Gospel Music takes place every summer at Beech Street Baptist Church in Crossett. Confirm dates and registration options before visiting.
These offerings differ in their timing: the auditorium is available for events year-round, while the festival and music school take place on recurring dates. If your trip depends on a particular program or event, check the relevant dates in advance.
Sports, Pool and Market
The Scott McCormick Sports Complex has five baseball and softball fields and six soccer fields. Event dates may vary; if your trip depends on a specific game or event, it’s best to check the date in advance.
Crossett City Pool has a zero-entry pool area, a diving board and a spiral slide. The Crossett Farmer’s Market on Main Street is covered and offers produce boxes, water, electrical outlets and restrooms. These different facilities offer further options if you’d like to plan your stay around sports, swimming or a visit to the market.
Nature Nearby
Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge is near Crossett and offers self-guided trails on land and water. Conditions and access may vary depending on water levels and management restrictions. Compared with the lakeside trail at Lucas Pond, the refuge offers a different type of trail experience; keep the stated variable conditions in mind when planning.
