Brighton can be planned from a variety of perspectives: local history and art sit alongside recreational activities and nature. If you’re looking for a hotel in Brighton, these interests can help you decide what to focus on during your stay. The places and activities below differ in whether they focus on insights into history, art in public spaces, physical activity or landscapes.

Museums, Architecture and Local History

The Brighton City Museum presents artifacts and the history of the Brighton region along the South Platte River in its core exhibition, “Splendid Valley and Brighton: Story of a Place” — from the earliest times to the present day. Exhibition details may change. Admission is by voluntary donation on a “pay as you will” basis; check the latest information before your visit.

Downtown Brighton also offers a way to explore the city’s history: its collection of historic buildings includes 19th-century Italianate-style commercial blocks, as well as individual and paired storefronts. Rather than through an exhibition, these buildings convey history to visitors through their architecture and varied façades. They complement a museum visit with a look at historic commercial buildings.

The Brighton Armory was built in 1921 to a standard design by John James Huddart. After the Brighton Historic Preservation Commission designated it a local historic landmark, it was converted into a cultural center. Today, the Armory hosts local and regional events and performances. Its construction date, historic designation and current use each offer a different insight into the building’s development.

Art and Regional Character

The Eye for Art Program presents ongoing exhibitions of original art at Brighton City Hall. No tours are offered on Wednesdays. If you’re planning a visit, check the latest visitor information beforehand.

The landscape is also part of the region’s character: Historic Splendid Valley is an agricultural area. Its focus is on preserving farmland and strengthening connections between people, agriculture and nature. The history of Bromley Farm has a specific date: the Hishinuma and Koizuma families bought the farm in 1947.

Recreation and Seasonal Activities

The Brighton Recreation Center’s indoor pool is open year-round. It has five 25-yard lanes and a separate leisure pool with a bubble bench, water features and a slide. This gives visitors two different pool areas to choose from: a lap pool and a leisure pool with the listed water features. Pool admission is included with a day pass, a multi-visit pass or a membership. Check the latest admission information before your visit.

Brighton’s first disc golf course is located in Benedict Park. For seasonal pick-your-own produce, Berry Patch Farms offers strawberries, raspberries, sour cherries, plums, basil, flowers and pickling cucumbers from June through September. Since seasonal availability may change, it’s worth checking the details before making plans.

Nature and Landscape

Barr Lake State Park offers a different focus from the historic and cultural attractions. The park covers 2,715 acres; the reservoir within it covers more than 1,950 acres. The southern half of the park was designated as a wildlife refuge. These figures give a sense of the size of the park and the lake without suggesting that they are the same area.

For a specific walk, an easy 1.3-mile trail leads from the Nature Center to the Gazebo Boardwalk and a viewpoint overlooking a heron colony. The route combines a walk with a named destination and a viewpoint. It offers a different way to experience nature than the buildings, exhibitions and recreational activities that feature elsewhere in this destination.
