Lakeview’s history can be understood through several milestones from different periods: from the approximate opening of the area for settlement to the community school and, later, the merger with Fort Oglethorpe. There are also details about General Daniel Newnan, the SOAKya water park, and a road connection in the Lakeview neighborhood. When planning your trip, you can consider historical interests, leisure activities, and access as separate priorities.

History of Lakeview

The Chattanooga Land Company opened the Lakeview community for settlement around the time of the First World War. The community school was scheduled to open in fall 1915, but it was not completed until 1916. These two details refer to different milestones: fall 1915 was the planned opening date, while 1916 was the year it was completed. In 1973, the communities of Lakeview and Fort Oglethorpe merged. The chronology thus spans an early period with an approximate date, the school’s planned opening and completion, and a later merger with an exact date. This sequence places the settlement and community history in chronological context.

General Daniel Newnan: Monument and Memorial Marker

The inscription on the General Daniel Newnan Monument identifies Newnan as a veteran of the War of 1812. The monument was erected and dedicated in 1927 by Gordon Lee, the Sarah Dickinson Chapter of the D.A.R. from Newnan, Georgia, and members of Newnan Springs M.E. Church South. The dates have different roles: 1812 appears in the inscription about Newnan, while 1927 dates the monument’s erection and dedication. A historic memorial marker for General Daniel Newnan is located on Lakeview Drive, east of Nituna Avenue. The inscription, the history of the monument’s dedication, and the marker’s location each provide a distinct historical reference point.

SOAKya Water Park

SOAKya opened in 2013 and covers five acres. The water park has an interactive children’s play area with four water slides. The acreage refers to the entire facility, while the number of slides applies specifically to one area. This distinguishes the overall size from a specific feature of the children’s area. The address is 1730 Lakeview Dr, Rossville, Georgia 30741. When planning your trip, the opening year, area, play area, and address answer different questions about the water park.

Route 27 and the Lakeview Neighborhood

In the Lakeview neighborhood, U.S. Route 27 runs through its southwestern part. It provides a direct connection to downtown Chattanooga, which lies approximately six miles to the north. The route describes the road’s location within the neighborhood; the approximate distance and direction indicate its connection to Chattanooga. If the route is important to your trip, check current road conditions and access options, as these may change. This lets you consider both the road connection and the geographic orientation when planning.
