Accommodation in Kalaoa
For your trip to Kalaoa, activities in the surrounding area can be grouped by theme. The landscape at Keahole Point is shaped by a rugged coastline and cliffs; farm offerings focus on marine life, salt, and vanilla. The Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary adds forest and bird watching, yoga, and sound baths to the selection. If you are looking for a hotel, you can consider which experiences to include in your travel plans based on these highlights.
Coastal Scenery at Keahole Point
Keahole Point, near Kalaoa, has a rugged coastline and cliffs. Hiking is possible along the rugged coast, and fishing is another activity available there. This gives you a choice of two different ways to spend time outdoors in the same place: walking along the coast or fishing. Combined with its rocky landscape, this makes for a different focus than the themed farm and forest offerings in the surrounding area.
Farm Tours and Marine Life
Several farms in the HOST Park, in the surrounding area of Kalaoa, currently offer tours to the general public. The farm tours cover different topics, from marine life to salt production.
The Ocean Rider Seahorse Farm, in the surrounding area of Kalaoa, offers a tour about marine life led by the farm. It is led by naturalists with accredited degrees in biology and specialized training in marine conservation. Visitors can see and hold seahorses on the tour and learn more about the animals and their habitats. Both encounters with the seahorses and their world are therefore central to the experience.
The Kona Sea Salt Farm, in the surrounding area of Kalaoa, offers a 45-minute tour; reservations may be required. Kona Sea Salt hand-harvests Hawaiian salt from deep seawater located 2,200 feet below the surface of the Kona ocean. The Vanillerie invites visitors to sample hand-grown vanilla. Salt and vanilla thus offer two different product themes for a visit in the surrounding area.
Guided tours in the HOST Park cover traditional salt production as well as the world of seahorses and sea dragons. The availability of individual tours may change. Farm tours offered there must be booked directly through the respective farms’ websites; check operating details there before your trip.
Forest, Bird Watching, and Other Offerings
The Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary, in the surrounding area of Kalaoa, offers the two-hour guided morning bird-watching tour “The Early Bird.” Yoga sessions and sound baths are also offered there. The Pantropical Lower Loop Trail runs for about half a mile through a forest of rare trees, ferns, palms, bamboo, and flowers. The experience also includes the songs of native Hawaiian honeycreepers.
For planning purposes, the information about the tour and route differs: “The Early Bird” lasts two hours, while the Pantropical Lower Loop Trail is about half a mile long. This lets you distinguish the bird-watching tour’s duration from the trail’s length as you weigh your interests and plan your trip itinerary.
Check operating details directly with the respective provider before visiting a farm. Reservations may be required at Kona Sea Salt, and the availability of individual HOST Park tours may change.
