To plan a stay with Ada as your destination, you can first decide what to focus on: river trails, other trail networks, nature or culture. If you’re looking for a hotel, this distinction can help you organize your travel interests. The Boise River Greenbelt and Ridge to Rivers offer different trail experiences; parks and historic sites provide other points of interest.

River Trails on the Boise River

The Boise River Greenbelt runs along the Boise River from Lucky Peak to Garden City. Ada County Parks & Waterways manages more than 11 miles of the Greenbelt. The trail network combines paved multi-use paths with unpaved trails intended for pedestrians only. At Barber Park, the Greenbelt includes an unpaved multi-use trail and a paved path. Trail types therefore vary depending on the specific route mentioned; this is a useful point of reference when planning your time by the river.

Trail Networks and Outdoor Activities

According to an update dated January 29, 2026, Ridge to Rivers partner agencies manage more than 220 miles of trails in the Boise Foothills. A trail conditions notice from the same date lists 17 trail options as usable year-round in all weather. The figures describe different things: the mileage refers to managed trails, while the number 17 refers to all-weather options. This lets you distinguish the scale of the trail network from the specific number of options listed.

There are also named activities beyond hiking. Eagle Island State Park has a 19-hole disc golf course. The Military Reserve area has trails, an archery range, an old military cemetery, a bike park and a dog park. This selection ranges from trails to specific sports and park facilities; when planning your trip, consider which ones match your interests.

Nature and Wildlife

Kathryn Albertson Park covers 41 acres. It is a nature park with paved footpaths and habitats for many birds, waterfowl, owls, herons and other animals. The park description thus places trails and wildlife habitats side by side. If you’d like to include nature and paved footpaths in your travel plans, this offers a distinct focus alongside the longer trail networks and sports facilities.

Culture and History

The Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial includes a life-size bronze statue of Anne Frank, walls bearing quotations about human rights, a First Peoples’ Welcome Plaza and an outdoor classroom. The site thus combines elements of remembrance and education.

The Schick-Ostolasa Farmstead has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2006 as an outstanding example of early Idaho settlement and agriculture in the West during the 19th and 20th centuries. It preserves the agricultural history of Dry Creek Valley and Ada County through on-site tours offered by appointment and public events. During school tours, costumed guides offer insight into everyday life for a family on a farm in Dry Creek Valley in the late 19th century. These school tours are offered by appointment.

Beyond Ada County

The conservation area extends beyond Ada County. It offers a 56-mile scenic loop drive, as well as opportunities for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. These activities provide a broader regional focus and complement the topics of river trails, parks and history.
