There are several different local attractions to choose from for your trip to Kewanee: Windmont Park, with its pond, walking path, and fitness stations; the Kewanee Historical Society Museum; and murals depicting the city’s history. The 2026 program also lists two Hog Days events at named locations. When looking for a hotel in Kewanee, you can first decide which of these themes matters to your trip.

Windmont Park: Walking Path, Fitness Stations, and Fishing

Windmont Park opened for recreation in the summer of 1906 and is located within Kewanee. A walking path runs around the pond, and additional walking and fitness stations complement the amenities. This offers different ways to enjoy the same park: a walk by the water or exercise at the stations. Fishing is also permitted at the pond and from the newly built pier. If you include the park in your day’s plans, you can choose between the path, the fitness stations, and fishing. Park facilities and fishing conditions may change; check the current conditions before your visit.

Museum and the Building’s History

The Robert and Marcella Richards Museum of the Kewanee Historical Society is located at 125 N Tremont Street in Kewanee. Its seasonal opening hours are important to keep in mind when planning a visit: it is open from May through October on Thursdays and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. Check these hours before traveling so you can fit the museum visit into your schedule. In 2020, the museum moved into a building constructed in 1942, after the “Great Kewanee Fire” destroyed much of downtown. The museum’s move and the building’s construction after the fire are both part of the site’s historical context.

Murals Downtown

Another way to explore Kewanee’s history is the History in the Paint Public Art Tour downtown. It features 15 hand-painted murals, each depicting an aspect of Kewanee’s history. The tour has a different focus from the museum: the building constructed in 1942, which the museum moved into in 2020, is part of the museum’s historical context; here, the focus is on the murals and the individual historical themes they portray. For the cultural and historical part of your trip, you can choose between the museum building, with its own history, and the painted depictions of different aspects of Kewanee.

Hog Days: Two Venues in the 2026 Program

The World’s Largest Outdoor Pork Barbecue is scheduled in the 2026 program for the Green Space at the intersection of 3rd & Chestnust Streets in downtown Kewanee. The Hog Days Craft Show & Flea Market is listed in the 2026 program for Liberty Park in Kewanee. The events therefore differ in their named venues. Festival programming may change, so check the dates and program details before your trip. Unlike the park, museum, and murals, these Hog Days events are tied to a specific program; keep that in mind when planning your stay.
