Santa Claus offers several concrete starting points for planning your trip: trails through town, historic sites, and a recurring event in December. The Trails of Santa Claus currently cover a total of 5.75 miles and connect local attractions, businesses, and city facilities. Since the routes may change, check the current route before setting out. Individual trails differ in length, surface, and layout.

Trails with Different Profiles

The Ray Yellig Trail – South Loop is a 1.2-mile loop with two sections made of concrete and natural stone. One loop goes around the sports fields, while the other offers a natural landscape experience. The CLV-Yellig Trail is 1.6 miles long, paved, and runs through Santa Claus. It is therefore 0.4 miles longer; at the same time, the trails differ in surface and layout. The 5.75 miles refer to the entire network, while the 1.2 and 1.6 miles refer to individual trails. When choosing a route, you can therefore choose between two distinct profiles: a loop with two sections and a paved route through town.

Local History at the Museum, Church, and Statue

The Santa Claus Statue is 22 feet tall and was erected in 1935. At the Santa Claus Museum & Village, exhibits and presentations share the town’s history through documents, photos, and artifacts. These materials offer different forms of historical evidence: documents, photographs, and objects complement one another. You can also visit the historic Santa Claus Church, dating from 1880, on the museum grounds. The church, dating from 1880, is older than the statue erected in 1935; the dates thus mark two points in time. While the exhibits present local history through a range of materials, the church and statue each offer their own historical perspective.

Christmas Traditions and Dates

The Santa Claus Post Office is promoted as the world’s only post office named “Santa Claus.” At the Original 1856 Santa Claus Post Office, young students can write letters to Santa Claus; every letter receives a reply from Santa and the elves in December.

The Santa Claus Christmas Celebration takes place every year over three weekends in December; individual activities may change. December is also the key time period for the letter tradition. There is a specific difference to consider when planning: the Celebration spans three weekends, while replies to letters arrive in December.

Another Highlight for Visitors

Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari is located in Santa Claus and is considered America’s first theme park. This means there are two different reasons to visit: a theme park in town and the annual Christmas Celebration, which takes place in December. Which one determines your plans for your stay also depends on whether you want to schedule your trip around a specific event date.
