Clear Lake, Iowa, brings together themed gardens, lake activities, local history and seasonal events to offer a variety of travel experiences. When planning a stay, it helps to first decide what brings you there: Should the lake be the focus, are you interested in historic attractions, or is your trip timed around a particular date? These priorities provide practical starting points for planning your trip and searching for a hotel in Clear Lake.

Gardens and City Life

In the heart of Clear Lake are the Central Gardens of North Iowa. Spanning just under three acres, they feature more than 20 themed gardens. City Park has been a landmark in downtown Clear Lake since 1856 and is a focal point for community gatherings and celebrations. The two places offer different experiences: the Gardens highlight their variety of themes, while City Park stands out for its long history and role in community life.

Lake, Bike Routes and Sailing

City Beach offers a sandy public swimming area for a quick dip in the lake and access to the lakeside surroundings. Follow the safety conditions posted on site when swimming. The Clear Lake History Ride starts at Clear Lake City Park and follows a loop around the lake past historic attractions. There is also a 14-mile bike loop around the lake. The History Ride focuses on historic attractions, while the other bike loop is defined by its 14-mile length. Clear Lake also hosts sailing races on weekends.

Events Throughout the Year

The Color the Wind Kite Festival is a winter kite festival held in Clear Lake every year on the third Saturday in February, featuring giant inflatable kites. The exact date may change. From late May to mid-August, Thursdays on Main transforms Main Avenue into a summer event with live music, shopping, food and family entertainment. The dates of this summer event also change each year. February and the period from late spring to midsummer therefore offer different timeframes to plan around.
