Calvert City: Trails, Recreation, and Film History
Accommodation in Calvert City
Calvert City combines a range of specific recreational opportunities with cultural and entertainment offerings. The different trails and locations vary in route, length, and activity—these details make it easier to choose what fits your trip planning.
Greenway and Trails
From downtown at 5th Avenue, the Calvert City Greenway runs to Kentucky Lake. It includes four paved multipurpose loops and an eight-mile singletrack trail. Regardless of the route breakdown described, the Calvert City Greenway offers 10 miles of paved trails connecting residents and visitors with Kentucky Lake.
Moneymaker Trail is in downtown Calvert City and is a five-mile wooded singletrack trail. It is suitable for hiking, running, and mountain biking. To reach the trailhead, use the rear parking lot at Calvert City Hall and the connecting multipurpose path. Its wooded setting, length, and listed activities set it apart from the Greenway’s paved multipurpose loops.
Memorial Park has a lighted 0.5-mile loop that connects to the Calvert City Greenway Trail. Unlike the five-mile Moneymaker, it is a shorter loop with a clearly stated distance. Calvert City thus offers another trail option with its own distance and lighting; its connection to the Greenway is an additional feature.
More Recreation
For other ways to get active, there are Old Park DGC and Chris Bynum Skate Park. Old Park DGC is a nine-hole disc golf course in technically challenging, wooded terrain. The lighted Chris Bynum Skate Park is made of concrete and has several ramps for skaters ranging from beginners to advanced. The disc golf course and skate park thus complement the trails with activities of a different kind.
Culture and Movie Night
AmeriBration has been part of Calvert City’s community tradition since 1989. The Calvert City River Folk Fest takes place in Memorial Park. At the Calvert City Museum, visitors can explore more than 150 years of local history. These places and traditions offer additional points of interest for trip planning alongside the outdoor activities.
The Calvert Drive-In opened in 1953 and has space for 400 cars. Admission to a double feature covers both movies. The concession stand serves pepper burgers as well as pizza, popcorn, nachos, hot dogs, and candy. For planning a movie night, it’s worth checking the current showtimes.
Arriving by Air
Kentucky Dam Village Airport has a 4,000-foot paved, lighted runway. It is close to Kentucky Lake, Kentucky Dam Village State Park, and the Calvert City Greenway Trail. Pilots have access to a lounge with showers and restrooms; parking is available on the apron and at tie-down spots.
