Zachary brings together city history, a memorial to local veterans, a weekly farmers’ market, and specific recreational activities. The historic sites range from individual buildings to a depiction of neighborhood life over several decades. This lets you combine the city’s different historical highlights with local produce and outdoor activities. At Regional Veterans Park, a memorial wall with approximately 400 bricks honors local veterans; their names and service information are engraved on it.

City History in Buildings and at Historic Village

The Zachary Railroad Depot was built in 1894 and is the oldest building on Main Street. Zachary Old Town Hall was completed in 1931 using poured concrete and served the city’s administrative and jail functions. Old Town Hall features information about the history of local residents and places, as well as the original council table. Museum content may change over time.

The Zachary Historic Village has a different focus: the community museum comprises eight buildings across an area of two city blocks in historic downtown Zachary. It offers a picture of small-town neighborhood life from the late 19th century through the 1960s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In contrast to the depot, whose construction date marks a single point in time, the history presented at Historic Village spans several decades. The historic sites therefore differ in scale: one building stands alongside a broader depiction of small-town life.

Visits to a museum on Virginia Street in historic downtown Zachary are available by appointment Monday through Thursday. Arrange your visit in advance. This visiting requirement is especially important if you are factoring a museum visit into your schedule.

Farmers’ Market and Outdoor Recreation

The Zachary Community Farmer’s Market is an outdoor market in the center of Zachary. Local farmers sell fresh produce there every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market has more than 60 local vendors, including artisans; the number of vendors may change. This means that the market described includes handcrafted goods as well as produce from farmers. Check the specific weekly details before traveling.

For a walking route, Zachary Youth Park offers a clear point of reference: the park has a half-mile trail. BREC’s Beaver Creek Golf Club is an 18-hole public golf course in Zachary. The back nine holes pass through protected wetlands, so the course description includes the landscape as well as the number of holes. The walking trail and golf course represent different recreational activities and specific features. If you plan to play golf, check tee times in advance.
