This gives you a way to weigh nature, local history and activities with different seasonal considerations as you plan your trip.

Riverwalk and Parks Along the Penobscot River

The Brewer Riverwalk runs along the banks of the Penobscot River and features themed plantings, paved walking paths and a waterfall. The Children's Garden has chess tables and picnic tables for people of all ages.

The second phase of the Brewer Riverwalk extends the path to Veteran's Park near the Penobscot River Bridge. A tunnel and an outdoor fitness center are also part of this phase.

Indian Trail Park in North Brewer covers four acres, offers scenic views of the Penobscot River and has a sledding hill. A hiking trail runs through and beyond the park; it offers river views, particularly good vistas and a pleasant hiking experience. In choosing between them, consider whether you prefer the paved walking paths at the Riverwalk or the hiking trail and sledding hill at Indian Trail Park.

Theater and Local History

Ten Bucks Theatre produces three performances each year, including Shakespeare Under the Stars, an outdoor performance at Indian Trail Park in Brewer. The Brewer Performing Arts Center at 92 Pendleton Street is a 487-seat performing arts venue. The specific difference is that you can choose between a performance explicitly held outdoors and a seated venue. Check the schedule to find dates that fit your trip.

The Clewley Museum's mission is to preserve Brewer's history for future generations. It also features an exhibit about Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, the Civil War hero and former governor of Maine who was born in Brewer. The museum thus offers a local history connection and a specific biographical focus.
