Milbridge is located on Narraguagus Bay. Nature watching, access affected by the tides, a short trail in the town center, and market and museum offerings give your stay a range of focuses. If you’re looking for a hotel in Milbridge, these interests can help you organize your travel plans: visiting Pinkham Island requires planning around the tides, while Milbridge Commons brings together a short walking loop and several points of interest.

Island Nature and Tides

Pinkham Island is an 80-acre island in Milbridge. Bald eagles nest there, shorebirds forage, and other wildlife is part of the landscape. Because of the surrounding mudflats, the island is accessible only for a few hours before and after high tide. The tidal window is therefore an important factor in planning this visit.

Seasonally, Robertson Sea Tours & Adventures takes guests aboard a traditional lobster boat from Milbridge along the Downeast coast. Along the way, you may see seabirds, marine life and lighthouses such as Petit Manan. The trip offers several possible wildlife and coastal sights; tours are seasonal.

Trails, Parks and Water Access

Milbridge Commons is in the town center. A 0.2-mile trail loops around the community gardens and is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. The Commons also includes a playground, a lending library and a pollinator garden. It offers views of the Narraguagus Bay coast. The trail’s length, accessibility and various points of interest make the Commons a compact destination for a stay in town.

At Riverside Park, you can fish and picnic. At Narraguagus River Dam, you can see a rustic railroad bridge, a Cable Pool and rapids. The options differ: the park is associated with two activities, while the dam is mainly about viewpoints and river features.

Milbridge Marina, also known as Millbridge Town Landing, is on Bayview Street, off Route 1A. It offers access to the Narraguagus River, a boat ramp, a floating dock and ample parking. The boat ramp cannot be used at low tide. This restriction is important if you plan to use the ramp.

Market and Local Life

The seasonal Milbridge Farmers’ Market is held in the parking lot of Camden National Bank on Route 1. The market location may change, so check it before heading there. Vendors bring goat cheese, locally raised pork, organic wild blueberries, jams, baked goods, assorted produce, and farm-made yarn and fiber products. There is also often local live music and a local craft artist; the program may vary.

The Milbridge Historical Society Museum preserves the history of Milbridge, Maine, through permanent and seasonal exhibits. A particular focus is the town’s shipbuilding history, presented every summer. The museum thus highlights both local history and a recurring summer theme.

The Milbridge Theatre is also part of the town’s history: for nearly 80 years, it was an important part of social life in Milbridge. The nonprofit community theater hosted a variety of events and film screenings. It closed after the owner died.
