Three different themes may be worth considering as you plan your trip to Munising: Munising Falls, the non-motorized trail system at Munising Mountain Bike Park on the western edge of town, and boat tours departing from downtown. If you’re looking for hotels in Munising, you can first decide which of these activities you want to make the focus of your stay.

Munising Falls and Hiking Trails

Munising Falls is a 50-foot waterfall that plunges over a sandstone cliff. The paved, 800-foot trail leads to the base of the waterfall and has viewing platforms. This route connects a specific starting point with the destination at the waterfall. The main visitor center for Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is in Munising, near Munising Falls. Munising Falls also provides access to the North Country Trail National Scenic Trail. For your planning, these are different hiking options: a short paved trail directly to the waterfall and access to a named National Scenic Trail.

Ride Different Trails

The non-motorized trail system at Munising Mountain Bike Park is on the western edge of Munising and can be reached by bike from downtown. The 1.5-mile, ADA-accessible Gateway Loop connects the trails to the parking lot. Its length, accessibility, and role as a connector give this loop a distinct profile within the system.

The Munising Bay Loop, also known as the MBL, is an outer cross-country flow trail around Munising Mountain Bike Park. The optional downhill flow trail Flow & Steady takes riders back to the M-28 trailhead. The named trails therefore differ in their routes and functions: the Gateway Loop connects the trails to the parking lot, the MBL is the outer flow trail, and Flow & Steady is the optional descent back to the trailhead. These distinctions can help you choose bike trails based on the features that matter to your plans.

The starting area at Munising Mountain Bike Park includes a jump line, a skills park, and a pump track. Individual features may change. If one of them is important to your ride, check the latest trail information in advance.

Boat Tours from Downtown

Pictured Rocks Cruises departs from Munising City Dock, in the heart of historic downtown Munising. The operator offers nonstop boat tours with narration about the sandstone cliffs within Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The departure point and destination are different reference points: the tour starts at City Dock, while the cliffs are within the National Lakeshore. If you’d like to include a tour in your plans, check the operator’s current departure times. This lets you consider a boat tour as a separate focus of your stay, alongside the waterfall trail and bike trails.
