Diamondhead combines two 18-hole golf courses with gardens and trails, access to the water, and its own event tradition. Looking at the specific places can help you assess which activities may shape your stay.

Golf Courses with Distinct Features

The Cardinal Course lies in gently rolling, wooded terrain. Its fairways do not run parallel, and the course also features particularly long sand bunkers. Bunkers and water come into play on the Pine Course. The difference can be summed up briefly for your planning: The Cardinal is characterized by its terrain and fairway layout, while the Pine is defined by bunkers and water in play.

Diamondhead has two 18-hole golf courses. If golf is important to your trip, the features of the two courses offer specific points of reference for deciding what to focus on during your stay, without treating the courses as identical.

Gardens, Trails, and Outdoor Activities

Maluhia Garden is designed for walking and enjoying nature. Its grounds include 11 flower beds. There is also a walking trail at Twin Lakes, where you can also play disc golf or fish for freshwater fish from the shore. This lets you distinguish between walking, playing, and fishing as separate activities at two named places in Diamondhead.

Diamondhead Drive is a loop more than 6 miles long around the city. A 6-foot-wide shoulder is designated for walking or cycling. The Grassy Point Trail is another route with a different course: It runs 10.2 miles in one direction from Pass Christian to Diamondhead. Its route through open water in St. Louis Bay is surrounded by salt marshes. The comparison is especially useful for route planning: Diamondhead Drive is a loop, while the Grassy Point Trail has named endpoints and a specified direction.

Horseback riding lessons are also part of Diamondhead’s recreational offerings. The activities mentioned therefore extend beyond golf and trails; when planning, you can take different interests into account without tying them to a single place.

Marina, Paddling, and Water Routes

Diamondhead Marina has a boat ramp. Via Paradise Bayou, it provides access to the Jordan River and Bay of St. Louis. Pete’s Landing offers residents and visitors a convenient access point for boating. These distinct, named access points give you specific points of reference if boating is part of your trip planning.

A 9-mile route leads from Bayou Drive Kayak Launch to Diamondhead Marina. Paddle Paradise is a paddling event hosted by the City of Diamondhead at the marina; the paddling route is four miles long. These two distances refer to different things: one is the route from the launch to the marina, the other is the length of the event.

From Diamondhead, it is a short drive of about 10 miles to the water and a paved multi-use path along the beach. Diamondhead has a private airport for private aircraft.

History and Events

Diamondhead’s recreational character has a historical background. Beginning in 1969, substantial investment transformed a rural area into a city for retirees and a vacation destination. By 1980, the Pines Golf Course, a country club, a yacht club, a marina, and a runway had been built. This development connects several of the recreational and infrastructure areas mentioned today with the place’s early history.

The Krewe of Diamondhead holds a Mardi Gras parade every year on the Saturday before Mardi Gras Day. It starts at City Hall and ends at Diamondhead Country Club. If you are planning your trip specifically around the parade, check the date for that year in advance.

When looking for hotels in Diamondhead, you can first decide whether golf, trails and nature, activities on the water, or an event date should be the focus of your stay.
