Historic buildings, landscaped outdoor spaces, and the Carl L. Chinnery Nature Trail shape Unity Village's main themes. When planning your trip, it is worth considering these highlights separately: the historic district tells a different story than the nature trail, while the labyrinth, fountains, and rose garden are associated with specific measurements and dates. This can help you structure your time according to your interests.

Historic District and Buildings

The Unity School of Christianity Historic District was designed and built between 1927 and 1930 in the Italian Renaissance tradition. The district includes two buildings, a fountain, a balustrade, and the immediately surrounding landscape. Its historic design therefore encompasses both the buildings and their immediate surroundings. The construction period and the named architectural tradition are the key points of reference.

Unity Tower was built in 1929, stands 165 feet tall, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. These dates distinguish the year it was built from its later listing. The Unity Education Building was originally called the Silent Unity Building and is also listed on the register. The Silent Unity Visitors Chapel features elaborate stenciled paintings. The Fillmore Chapel contains original Art Deco frescoes, hand-painted by artist David Ahrends.

The Bridge of Faith has its own history: Rickert Fillmore designed it, and Lowell Fillmore dedicated it in 1951. The Silent Unity Fountain is attributed to architects Boillot and Lauck. These details offer different ways into the site's history—from architecture and art to the people associated with the buildings.

The Potting Shed was built in 1923 as a well house over the main water well of Unity Farm, the campus's original name. It is one of the most historic buildings in Unity Village and among the few remaining structures that tell the story of the farm. For orientation, it stands between the Fillmore Café and the Carl L. Chinnery Nature Trail parking lot. The Unity Village Golf Course is a nine-hole course with a par of 36. The Harris farmhouse now serves as the clubhouse; it was previously converted into a country home for Unity founders Charles and Myrtle Fillmore.

Fountains, Rose Garden, and Labyrinth

A large, Venetian-inspired fountain complex at Unity Village covers 14,090 square feet. The rose garden was established in 1952 and contains about 800 roses in numerous varieties. The Unity Labyrinth has different features: it is 90 feet in diameter, is considered the largest paved labyrinth in the United States, and is used for mindfulness. These details help distinguish the fountain complex, garden, and labyrinth as separate aspects of the landscaped grounds.

Nature Trail and Visitor Information

The Carl L. Chinnery Nature Trail is 2.5 miles long. It has steep climbs at both ends, so both the length and elevation profile are relevant when assessing the route. A Natural Bridge is located along the trail. Local lore holds that Jesse James used it as a hideout. The trail also features a mural in a concrete tunnel beneath the railroad bridge. Nature, local lore, and an artistic detail each give the route its own character.

The Rainbow Bridge Memorial was established in 2024 by Unity volunteers as a memorial for pets. Visitors may scatter their pets' cremated remains around and beneath the monument. If you are planning a group trip for this purpose, it is advisable to confirm group arrangements before arriving. The Fillmore Café works with premium coffee roaster Messenger Coffee. Its coffee is organic and ethically sourced. If you plan to visit the café, check in advance whether it is open.
